It's a big gap but they've played five fewer games than us and Vegas

Van 68 in 47

Vegas 60 in 47

Edmonton 53 in 42

Short of us going on a losing streak there's not much to worry about, but they could absolutely catch Vegas while Eichel is out

All three teams look to have similarly challenging schedules over the second half, Edmonton might have a slightly easier list of opponents but not by much

The real question mark is whether LA can rebound, their roster should be performing better than it has been, even their loss last night was more about Kahkonen standing on his head than anything

Saved 44/47, San Jose has 20 fewer shots

Gotta wonder whether LA looks to bolster it's tending at some point

But, not the best in the NHL.

Over their past 13 games? There's an argument for it. Their goaltending and defensive stats have been very good.

Will they finish as the league's best team? Probably not. But they're not on the run they're on only simply because they're scoring goals.

I'm more impressed by what Winnipeg's done since the beginning of December though, they're better built than Edmonton and have a better chance of going deep imo.

Even more impressive considering they were missing Connor for a while, and now Scheifele.

Agreed, both are huge blows

Winnipeg is continuing to win with Lowry and Namestnikov as top six centers

Wouldn't be surprised if they were in on Lindholm, they need someone better behind Scheifele

They need to show this to Huggy, so we can be more careful the next time we are in that situation.

Got a little scary there last night.

But leads to an interesting question: would Demko still get a shutout if Hughes did put it in his own net there?

No, Demko would not get a shut-out. In the Loui Eriksson game, Canucks end up winning the game 2-1 in a shoot-out. Miller had a 1.00 sv % and credited with the win, but no shut-out.

Thing to keep in mind about LA is they still rely heavily on Kopitar and Doughty and guys their age tend to fade the second half of the season.  Unless Dubois finds his game I think they will be scrambling to qualify for the post season.

That's a tough blow for a Philly team that looks like they could be a dark horse out East

They're fortunate Ersson has been playing well, gotta wonder who backs him up though

Dubois finding his game is a must, Kings invested too much in him for him to underwhelm the way he has thus far

Less sure about Kopitar and Doughty, as future hall of famers still playing at a high level they know the season grind better than most

Bergeron aged spectacularly, Kopitar is in the same league but without the fanfare

A guy like Bergeron was still a bit of a unicorn for late career production.  Thinking of some of the canuck squads at the end of the sedin era we had some good first half and then faded down the stretch.

Yeah, but Kopitar is also that unicorn.

As of today Bergeron is 38 and retired, Kopitar is 36 and still playing.

Bergeron's last three seasons: 58 in 78, 65 in 73, 48 in 54.

Kopitar's current season and previous two: 39 in 44, 74 in 82, 67 in 81.

Kopitar's a bit younger, absolutely, but he's a stud and he's also a Selke caliber player, having won two of them and been in the conversation for more.

Kopitar will be 37 in August and is signed for two more seasons, we'll see how he does but I expect he'll maintain the status quo or close to it.

I've repeatedly sung Kopitar's praises, he's basically a superior version of Getzlaf. If he'd done what he's done out East instead of LA, he'd probably be more heralded.
