Did he have much in the way of other options?  I have no idea, but it's not like he was awesome in the NHL.

I wouldn't think the family is too impressed, no.

Plenty of other leagues in Europe that he could have held his own in.

I just took a look at the leading Russia sport paper « Sport Express »

His whole family is in Russia and «  he thinks about his future only in Russia »

I think he gets more money for this PR , then for playing hockey.

He will be used as a whore by Russian propaganda for a while.

That doesn't turn out well, usually.   I expect he'll be used in a similar way to Charles Jenkins:

Most people don't have a choice of Nationality

He chose this one? (Even Zad spoke out which was brave)

Wants to Support Putins killings by being a citizen

Take away his Canadian Citizenship then

Don't you automatically lose your canadian citizenship when you become a citizen of another country?

I think you may be right

I  heard recently that you cannot have dual citizenship

Canada definitely allows dual citizenship. Otherwise I would have to choose one 🙂

In Canada the only impact is the military. The oath taken requires among other things that the recruit verbally renounce all other citizenships.

I was dual us \ Canada when I enlisted in the 80's and asked why ? Response was so that you can't get another country's passport while you serve.  They don't need a soldier deserting in another country and use a different passport to seek refuge ..... Not sure if that's the full reason but makes sense

They never asked me to prove I did anything other than make.that statement.

Let him rot in that hellhole.  That's a special kind of stupid to voluntarily become an orc.

So yeah Leipsic is a pretty awful person no denying that.

I've never been to Russia but from what I understand, crappy government aside, it's quite nice. Especially since he plays for St. Petersburg which is one of the nicer Russian cities. Plus it's just a boat ride from Helsinki and Tallin which isn't too bad as well.
