Players like Schenn are dime a dozen. You can get physical dmen to log 15 minutes a night on waivers, which is how we acquired him. You are entirely ignoring the fact that the sole reason he is in the NHL today is because Hughes elevated him way beyond what he could do. He then cashed in, on a deal that literally highlights that he isn't valued as a top 4 D (2.75 mil on the open market)... and went to play with Josi. No matter how you discredit him he's generally not a black hole offensively though even without Hughes he more often averages 10-15 pts and as high as 22 points while being extremely reliably defensively even career average is .20 ppg and that is with the 4 or 5 years he was still figuring things out at the NHL level. The eye test showed everything that needed to be shown. He was great playing shotgun to a generational talent by providing physicality and a decent first pass D to D under pressure. He's doing the same thing with another elite dman in Josi.
