Popular Post EdgarM
22 minutes ago, Miss Korea said: Maybe, but there was no room for him at the time. The OEL buyout wasn't expected. The Canucks chose to extend Miller over Horvat. Horvat himself was playing insanely well in a contract year. We had no cap space for a reasonable extension (he absolutely deserved a raise), so he was let go. Horvat didn't whine himself off the team or anything. His hard work actually got us a massive return and we are better for it. Both sides got what they wanted. Ironically, we haven't really replaced Horvat. That is why this forum has a new proposal for a 2nd line center every single day. Nope that is not why. Our elite #1 Center is having trouble getting his line going so he is playing with our true #1 Center. Ironically, Miller, who everyone wanted gone, has actualy ended up being our true #1 Center over Petey and Bo, go figure. 1 4 1

Kragar
I about crapped when I saw Barzal only had 7 assists all year, when Sportsnet put up the info for the Isles' first goal, thinking he was having a really off-year. Turns out it was a typo

Psycho_Path
Terrible reffing yet again. Fortunately for the Islanders even the penalties they did call the Canucks can't score worth shit on the PP. They really need to put Joshua out on the 1st unit PP to be a net front presence

That’s how the Blackhawks did it with big Buff Ugly and won Cups that way.

Pro scouting has been unreal I would, especially if it's going to be the mid to late 20s. We have a decent prospect pool with Lekkerimaki, Willander, Raty, etc. Unlike the Gillis years where we were competitive but had nothing in the cupboards.

Popular Post JamesB
Great way to finish off the first half of the season, sweeping the "NYC" teams for the first time ever. My comments. 1. After an emotionally draining win against the Rangers, I was expecting something of letdown, but the Canucks played a very controlled professional game against a good Islanders team and dominated in all dimensions. The Corsi numbers were 64-34 for the Canucks, the shots were 34-19, the high danger chances were 14-6, the expected goals were 3.25-1.35 and the actual goals were 5-2. The Canucks were ahead in each period, even in the third when you expect the trailing team to make a push. I am sure the Canucks dominated in O-zone time by a big margin. 2. Once again, everyone was good. The numbers were relatively balanced, and all four lines won the corsi battle. Tocchet has the team playing excellent team hockey. 3. One thing that sticks out tonight is the offensive contributions from the D. with Hughes, Hronek and Myers all scoring. I think Myers may have had his best game of the season even though he only played 17 minutes. For what must be the first time this season Myers had the best Corsi-For percentage on the team. Hronek also had an excellent game and, on his goal, Hughes showed why a lot of people think he might be the best skater in the NHL. He skated around 3 or 4 guys to get into a prime shooting position and shot a laser into the net. 4. The D was also very good defensively, giving up relatively little to the Islanders. The one guy who was a slight outlier was Juulsen, who was at the bottom of the list in various advanced stat metrics and was the only guy on the team to end up with a net minus in plus-minus. But he still played pretty well. Still, if Cole comes back in for the next game, I think Juulsen has to come out, even though I love the way he has improved his game as the season has progressed. Remember when the D was a weakness. Now it is a strength. 5. Turning to the forwards, the Lotto line was good again, with Petey picking up a great goal assisted by Miller. There were also a couple of times where Boeser did some very hard-working forechecking to maintain O-zone possession and I was thinking there is no way he makes those plays last year. He is just a much better player now than he was in the past. The Garland-Blueger-Joshua line was also very good and all three guys picked up points. The 4th line also had a solid night, giving up almost nothing defensively and getting a few chances. 6. The "second line" (Suter-Kuzy-Mik) is still not playing at the level of a legitimate second line but they also did not give up much. I actually don't mind seeing Kuzy focus on his defensive game and trying hard to play 200 ft hockey even if he is not scoring. At least he is not hurting the team and I think his offense will come. Not much more to say. Just a very impressive professional effort from top to bottom as the Canucks finish the best first half in team history (I think) tied with the 2010-11 team that went to the Cup Final. It's great following the team right now. 3 2 3
