I liked it when Toc paired Hughes with Zads for a few rounds.

Kinda telling Buffalo lay off it or big Z will  start making a rukus. And settled Hughes down too.

After that things cooled off and Hronek was paired with Hughes again.

Or at least that’s how I read it

Good eye. I hadn’t thought about the calming effect it brought. That’s smart coaching for sure.

At some point Mikheyev, Suter, and Kuzmenko have to do something.

The amount of money dedicated to that line, they need to produce. They have been good defensively, but they need to start putting some numbers on the board.

They could pick it up in the playoffs, but like you say, hard to see them changing much. I guess people just have to hope they come up with that extra playoff push.

Suter is not just about production. He's a key defensive specialist. That's his primary value. We saw how valuable he was when he was injured. He was a key catalyst in our turnaround from that slump late in 2023 when he returned to the lineup.

Kuzmenko as of late is starting to play the right way defensively and obviously learning from Suter.

Production is only part of the story. Although Mikheyev and Kuz do have greater expectations offensively.

Kuzmenko especially, since he scored 39 goals last year. I wonder if he turns it around the rest of the way.

I wonder if its a record for 5 players and a Coach going when its not the hosting City. Toronto has less players ha ha ha.

Now we have to decide which two to send to skills along side Petey.... Hughes and JT? Brock and JT? We have to decides so we dont split the votes

1986, Oilers sent 9 guys plus a coach.. less teams, but also a time when only the best were sent (honestly think Hronek might of made it too this year, under the old format where every team wasn't represented, so this year we'd be sending 6 which is pretty incredible).  Of the 20 players sent from the Campbell conference, 9 Oilers, we sent Tanti.   Five Oilers on their starting line-up too.

We truly deserved to be sending who made it, was hoping maybe Miller would get in given 3 guys these days is something.    It just goes to show how many fans the Canucks actually have across the country/world too.    What a nice thing.   And much deserved.   Wish they had the same format as back then too.   Not every team needs to send a player.

Great to see we can win games in different ways but we must be tired, this has been a hard, long road trip against the top teams in the league and we've destroyed them one after the other. I keep expecting a loss or let down but we find a way to win a game. CBJ might be the sleeper game if Buffalo wasn't but again, all we need is one or two of our stars to shine and it seems we can beat teams playing at 60-75%.

Top line comes up empty for once, bottom-6 produce, defence was great and Demko shines big time.

Who knows who will step up at CBJ but you'd like to see our special teams come up clutch. Demko does need to win us more games like this though, we can't be scoring 5+ goals a night.

But.........they built from the draft.  Is t that the only way for a team to be successful?????

Bingo...

Was actually thinking the same thing the other day.
Teams can not be built to win the SC without one or two top 2 or 3 picks..

Lets see, where it leads, but the team is looking really good atm.

Who would have thought Quinn Hughes would be only 6 points behind Connor McDavid over halfway through the season. Jeez.

Love that Tochett is doing what he said he'd like to do at the start of the year, which is balance out the minutes.   Now he can with Soucy back and the Zadarov trade.   Playing QHs 24-25 with Hronek is ok too, not having too, is going to pay dividends when the battle level increases come post season, and he becomes even more of a target.    He's also creating his own safety net, becoming his own meal ticket, McDavid is safe from getting ran by a kid trying to make the team (do that, get sent packing).    QHs is making a statement to become the best player, we've ever had.

Edit: Going to enjoy the All-star game, and watch him pile up the assists, score some goals.

Right now we have 3 guys who are on pace for 98-111 points or more ... That's special.    Brock could also go on a heater and make it to 50.

Is Soucy one of the best Defensive pickups since Hamhuis?

Yes.   Was stoked when we signed him, and he's going to for sure play above his cap hit.   Was MIN best D in the bubble I felt, or at least the most noticeable in a good way for them.   Made things awfully tough on our forwards.   At the time was curious about Dumba given his name kept coming up for a couple years on this site as a target - it was Soucy (Hartman too as an aside) that left a lasting impression though.   Was on his bandwagon going back a couple years now.   Happy, when SEA didn't sign him, stoked when we did.    Big Z.   What a difference in one year!

The one thing humans have done well, is kill eachother. That's it really. So back to hockey.

Considering the way the human population continues to climb, clearly there is something we are better at😜

I noticed that too and loved it. Such a smart subtle move from Tocchet basically saying touch Quinn and our big Russian is gonna have you looking over your shoulder the rest of the game lol. No one went near Hughes after that.
