All good though because they're rocking and it's fun to watch! GCG! Sadly, they often are, although the early start on Monday gives them a little extra time to rest up.

The chance of him or anybody being that close to 4 game winners never mind 5 game winners in a row again is very rare.

Popular Post JamesB
1. I would not say that Demko "stole" this game as the Canucks were the better team (winning the expected goals battle 2.17 - 1.75). But it was fortunate that Demmer pitched a shutout in one of the few games when the Canuck forwards were not getting the bounces and only managed one goal. And Luukkonen did play wall for Buffalo. Demmer continues to make a strong case for the Vezina. 2. It was a tough, chippy game, especially after the cheap shot of Greenway on Lafferty after the goal was was scored. One thing that has always bothered me is how referees let cheap shots after go after a goal is scored. Like if you score a goal the other team gets a free blindside hit. Greenway's hit was late and high and should have been an obvious penalty. 3. Miller's hit on Dahlin was borderline. Miller actually kept this elbow in so I don't know how they called it elbowing. But there was significant contact with the head although initial contact was with the chest/shoulder area. But I have to give Miller credit for "answering the bell". Miller is a warrior out there. 4. In a game that gets chippy it is nice to have a team with reasonable size and toughness. With Zadorov, Soucy, Cole, Myers, and Joshua on the team (in addition to Miller) other teams will hesitate before going too far. It is pretty hard to intimidate the team from a physical point of view. 5. Once again the team's depth was important. All six D's won the expected goals battle and all 6 played well. There are just no soft spots in the D. As many people have said before, including me, Myers has improved his game a lot. The combination of Z, Cole, and Soucy brings a dimension the Canucks have not had for a long time, and Hughes and Hronek are contenders for the top pairing in the league. (And Juulsen is a solid 7th man.) Great job by management and by the coaches. 6. Among the forwards, Lafferty obviously came up the game-winner on a great play and Hogs made an excellent play on that goal even though he did not get an assist. In the advanced stats, the 4th line was actually the best in the underlying stats (expected goals for, Corsi, etc. ) They generated several good chances and basically gave up nothing. The third line also played well. The worst line (statistically) was the Lotto line, and their quality of opposition as was not as tilted as it usually is except that Dahlin was hard-matched against them. And Miller made a pretty bad giveway, throwing the puck into the slot to give the Sabres a great opportunity. Fortunately, Demmer made a big save. And I am not saying they played badly. They played hard and it was unlucky that Boeser's goal was disallowed. They were just not really on their game today. 7. I have to put in another good word for Kuzy. His expected goals against (xGA) was 0.02 -- basically nothing, which is great. In fact that whole line (with Blueger and Mik) was very unlucky not to score and was excellent defensively and Kuzy made a very nice play in the 3rd period, bringing the puck in close but not being able the raise puck into the open area. But he has really turned his defensive game around and sooner or later the puck will start going on. 8. West coast teams, particularly the Canucks, usually do poorly on early road games played in the eastern time zone. And they started slow today. But they played their way out of the sluggish start. It still was not a work of art but, as many people said in post-game comments, it is great that the Canucks have the type of team that can grind out some "gritty" wins. 9. We were still pretty fortunate to get the win, especially as the Sabres had a couple of crossbars (although Demmer had the net well-covered and I am not sure there was space under the crossbar). 9. Great road trip so far. One more game to go. Edited January 14 by JamesB 3 6

This year its a 14 player tourney and they play in multiple challenges to play for $1,000,000. They selected 12 players (Petey is in) and the last 2 are open to votes. So we gotta do the voting thing but we should all figure out where our votes should go so we dont split the votes! Miller and Hughes? Miller and Brock? Brock and Huggy? Maybe we can even vote Tocc in for this.

coolboarder
Glad for the win but more importantly, did they get out of Buffalo before travel ban was enacted from the governor of NY at 9pm ET in that county. or was it too late? Needing all of the rest they can get for Monday afternoon.

We have 3, or 4 if we are allowed to vote for Tocchet. If we dont all vote the same, other teams will have more votes. Like toronto, or edmonton.
