lol, I just realized I always think you're disappointed in everyone's stupidity when I see your posts. (But it's just because of your avatar) 😂

Also my hot take of the decade or so. I always had this feeling that Hodgson would have scored a hatty and won us the Cup if we played him against Boston when we were all banged up.

Who says I'm not? 😉

Man, imagine a world where that happened... He could have been a hero.

edit: Both Gillis & Benning deserved to be fired.  Forget what "defenses & excuses" each may have had.  Team is in the right direction now.  Actually paying attention to the farm/developing players unlike the previous regime(s).

edited out my previous two posts as this thread is about Hodgson.  No need to rehash all the Gillis/Benning stuff.  That's behind us now (and thank jebus for that)

I can't for the life of me figure out why people keep arguing about old GM's and living in the past. Who cares, all GM's did some good, some bad. The get fired for a reason and then it's on to a new chapter.

Hahaha oh yeah, with the kraken logo and everything.

Worthless, waste of skin, scumbag, degenerate posters doing critically disastrous damage to CFF. Hopefully these parasites get banned before they have damaged the whole forum beyond repair. :frantic:😆

Haha, You kick ass Shayster. Keep it real brotha !!!

Yeah that would have been awesome. I always liked the kid right from the world junior days. I really hope he finds some success in this endeavor.

I had the highest hopes for him. I 100% thought he had potential to be out captain one day lol

The fact remains Gillis was both president and GM during our club’s most successful era. This is not arguable.

Very true but most of that team was assembled by Burke-Nonis.  That’s not to say that Gillis didn’t play a key role (ie Torres, Malhottra, Lapierre, Hamhuis), but most of those guys were Burke-Nonis drafted and/or acquired.

With our current team, all/most of our core players were drafted or traded for by Benning (Lotto line + Garland + Hoglander + Hughes + Myers + Demko + Podkolzin).

My opinion is that both Gillis and Benning made some solid moves that were ultimately overshadowed by some concerning red flags (Benning with his pro scouting and signings / Gillis with his drafting and some questionable trades post 2011 SCF).

But - to me, it’s like who cares?  Neither Gillis nor Benning are relevant to Canucks hockey in 2024.  About as relevant as my grandmother’s penis.

Ultimately, the Canucks have an excellent team and an excellent opportunity in front of us.  The first time since 2012.  Makes more sense for the conversations to revolve around this year rather than the GM’s of yesterday-year.

Sorry Alf but the Mighty Quinn was the best GM. The '94 team the best ever iced. While it is early yet if PA can get this version of the Canucks to the CUP finals everything will be off the board. While Jim Benning drafted many of the key pieces PA has added many complimentary pieces, especially Hronek.

Yup. Quinn and now Allvin. But it’s not arguable that Gillis was GM during our club’s best era. Two President’s trophies and two games played to win the Cup.

The legend of Trevor Linden was cemented in '94. The '94 roster was superior to '11. Yes, the 2011 team had some firepower but no Bure. Except for Messier stomping Linden the CUP would have been ours. 7 games of brutal gamemanship. Yes, I am arguing with you Alf. 🙂

You’re preaching to the (drunk) choir. But the fact remains that Gillis was FM during our club’s most successful era. He was a prickly pear. His draft record sucked. He left the cupboards empty. All true. But also true he was GM during our best era.

Anyone feel a bit bad for Hodgson at this point?

I think we all know how his attempted comeback is going to go. 😞

Depends if his rare disease is a factor because he is an awfully good player when it is not a factor.

Time to sweep the Benning Gillis stuff under the rug.

Correct me if I’m wrong… but wasnt Hodgsons Dad a little overly involved….

I remember that as well. I believe he was a provincial or federal minister at the time too. Not that that has much to do with anything - just other colour that was brought up when his dad getting involved rumours were cropping up.

Apparently signed a PTO with the Milwaukee Admirals.

Good for him

One of the things that sucked about his career being short due to something genetic was his not being able to walk away from the game he loves on his own terms

Even if he returns to just play AHL hockey, he'd have the opportunity to do just that

Rooting for him to make it

Alleged by Gillis. The other GM's didn't seem to have any issues.

Good luck Cody. Even being good enough at the AHL level is better than most of us.

Optimist would say he's only 33 years old.

nah, Optimist would say this is click bait and his career is over in the NHL. Best of luck to him but better folks have not managed a comeback with faster feet.
