He did what he needed to do to make this club a winner. Hurt feelings aside. This fanbase is so used to losing and to disappointment that they prefer not to hurt feelings over winning. Which is why we’ve never won a cup in 53 years. We finally have a management group with some balls who will make the right decisions. BB is a nice uncle. He was a bad coach. He had to go and his replacement is perfect. They gave the guy a few months before the decision was made. They realized and stated even with the BB bump, that the team had no sense in “playing the right way”. BB’s success was mainly from high end goaltending and team out scoring its problems. Like or loathe Rutherford, but the management team brought together under his leadership, has done wonders. This is the team, many said couldn't win the cup as they didn't have a top 2-3 pick in the team. It would be impossible to get rid of the anchor contracts and we'd be stuck in the mud for years to come. In the summer many thought, that despite Tocchet having a good run, the earliest this team could become a contender was in 3-4 years... OEL cap would hinder any earlier etc etc etc.... All of these concerns has been dealt with remarkably well, and the turn around of players and the teams fortune has been nothing short of sensational...
