What we know is that Ukraine has fought the Russian army to a standstill with one arm tied behind their back. Once again NATO is stalling Ukrainian membership by using their Article 5 BS. It suggests to me that NATO membership will be dangled in front of Ukrainians to force them into a ceasefire that hurts their national integrity. It is well established that Russian agents operate in the west on a ongoing basis. They will undermine any positive outcome for Ukraine. The nasty geopolitical reality is that most European countries flirt with a debt hammer hanging over their heads. Hard to support Ukraine when domestic politics are working against you. Russia is in worse condition but Putin does not have to answer to anyone. At best I hope Ukraine can stabilize their front and improve their air defense. Hopefully the F-16's can make a significant difference. NATO should have given a escalated timeline of involvement based on Russian withdrawal. That timeline should have escalated to the point of NATO troops being placed inside Ukraine. Moscow's threats should be matched by more NATO troops on Russia and Belarus's borders. There is no serious military threat by Russian military assets other than a nuke threat. Even that is questioned. Establish the timeline and execute it. Ukraine should be given a membership date for NATO and the EU. As previously stated, it includes PDA #60, worth $150 million, and USAI #19, worth ~$2.2 billion. The USAI package is entirely PATRIOT missiles and AMRAAMs. They are linking this to their decision to resequence the delivery schedule for active Foreign Military Sales cases for those two missiles. There were large numbers of PATRIOT missiles and AMRAAMs already on USAI contract for Ukraine prior to this new commitment though.
