Sweden announced a new military aid package to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. It's the largest package from Sweden, valued at €1.16 billion.

The package includes ASC 890 Airborne Surveillance and Control aircraft, as well as Rb 99 AMRAAM missiles. Sweden will also donate its entire stock of PBV 302 armored tracked personnel carriers and surplus tank vehicles from the armed forces.

We express our deep gratitude to our Swedish partners for their unwavering support! Your support is crucial for Ukraine's fight for freedom.

That's a big deal. It's been nice to have NATO AWACs aircraft patrolling over Poland and the Black Sea, but they can't get close enough to help directly over the front line. This is a huge capability add

The question is, with these in the air and the F-16s literally days if not weeks away with long range, like really long range missiles.

Is there anything they can mount tot he F-16 that will track aircraft to that 200-300 km range?  And if so, does this mean that Ukraine will have the ability to put missiles on them while they're in the air?

Warhippy,  if it means anything ( and I’ll try to find the link), those ASC890’s have been “synced” in with F16’s..

and will probably offer flight correction for the missiles the F16’s deploy.

FINALLY A CRACK …

After immense global pressure, US Secretary of State Blinken finally opened the door to allowing Ukraine to strike military targets inside Russia during a press conference on May 29, 2024 following his canned BS talking point that "Ukraine has to make its own decisions."
Last time Ukraine made such a decision and shot down 4 Russian military aircraft over Russian airspace with Patriot missiles in May 2023, US & Germany threatened to withhold further military support according to BILD.
England, France, and Germany have now given the green light to Ukraine to strike military targets inside Russia with supplied weapons.
Our take: Change of US policy on this matter will only be publicly announced after Ukraine conducts massive strikes using US weapons on Russian military targets near the Ukrainian border.

Putin is a Pig of War ,.  He wears lipstick by trying not to announce War.

the US has been careful not to be in the lead, letting other countries act first, to avoid being accused of telling Ukraine what is good for it the US wants to be recognized as a supplier of aid to Ukraine, not a director of what it does I think this is cautious and wise.
