The Russia/Ukraine War Thread

Sharpshooter

Recommended Posts

I won't be able to make a video for today but here is a quick update for you guys...(north to south clockwise) Kupyansk-Svatove front : Ukrainians still hold Synkivka and even managed to push Russian forces further north, while in Svatove front Ukrainian forces pushed Russians out of the areas west of Serhiivka. Heavy losses were caused to Russian armored units in the nearby settlement of Raihorodka. Avdiivka : Russians did not manage to make any significant advance for the 3rd day in a row. The intensity of Russian attacks has dropped significantly and Ukrainians continue to cause damage to the Russian forces north and south-east of Avdiivka. Heavy Russian casualties reported yesterday. Marinka : Here Russian forces managed to advance in a small area north of the town of Marinka after a succesful attack of their armored unit. Robotyne: Ukrainians continued to push west of Robotyne and have expanded their control over the western heights which are very important in securing the right flank of the AFU. Kherson: Ukrainian marines posted videos from the village of Krynky. Ukrainian presence seems to be increasing in this direction. Effective fire support done by artillery and FPV drones from across the river is causing a lot of problems to the Russian Army. One T-90M and a BTR-82 + several trucks were destroyed during the last 24h. Because things might be getting a little out of hand, Russia appointed a new commander for the Dnipro front.

A largely negative article in Time.

Ukraine's fight for survival is as dramatic and brutal as one can imagine. Bad choice of words by me as we cannot come close to imagining what these people have endured. Zelensky has exhibited strength and leadership from the beginning. The 30 second sound bite of western attention spans cannot grasp the reality in Ukraine.

The false equivalency of money not spent on Ukraine is money that could be spent helping ordinary Americans ignores the ultimate aim of Putin and his cohorts. Russia is a failing state that grasps at causes or gestures that appeal to Russians who have an uneasy feeling that they are headed back to 1991. When the USSR collapsed Russians went hungry. Propaganda has created a mindset for many Russians to blame others for their problems.

Ukrainians have no option but to fight on. My biggest fear is that AFU strategy might be influenced by the possible loss of western finance. That the AFU will take bigger operational risk to achieve gains in the field. The Americans have carried the majority of the cost of foreign support even tho it is the Euros who are most threatened. They have to up their support in a major way. The West has to give more and better weapons to the AFU so that they can win this conflict. If not for humanity then this support can be a pay me now expediency instead of sending our kids to fight there.

I can't imagine how any Western countries would ever even consider not continuing to give Ukraine the support needed to keep Russia from winning this war.

Even setting aside the fact that aiding Ukraine is the right thing to do ethically and morally, there's a huge future cost savings once Russia's military is eradicated and their government is denazified.  Anyone arguing against support is an idiot at best, and a Nazi supporter in the worst case.

Ukraine has said Russian forces lost dozens of pieces of military equipment, including tanks and artillery systems, in a single day.

The Ukraine General Staff update on Thursday, released as Kyiv's counteroffensive enters its fifth month, said Russia had lost 18 tanks over the previous day. It added that this takes Moscow's total tank losses since the start of the war to 5,241.

The website Oryx, which uses open source intelligence to measure equipment losses on both sides, puts the number of Russian tanks lost at 2,450 as of Thursday.

Kyiv also said Russia had lost 43 armored personnel vehicles (APVs) and 42 artillery systems over the previous day.

Newsweek has emailed the Russian defense ministry for comment.

The Ukraine General Staff report on Thursday also said Russia had suffered 930 casualties over the previous day. This takes the total since the start of the war on February 24, 2022 to 302,420, it added

Just as a point of debate..can the EU support the Russian/Ukraine war alone?

Russia's GDP is approx. 2.2 Trillion US dollars.....and ranks 11th in the world

Canada's GDP is approx 2.2 Trillion US dollars....and ranks 12th in the world

UK's GDP is approx 3.1 Trillion US dollars.............and ranks 6th in the world

The EU's GDP is approx...........

Around €14.5 trillion = 15.32 Trillion US Dollars

  • The European Union, with a GDP of around €14.5 trillion, generates roughly 3/4 of Europe 's GDP. The EU as a whole is the third largest economy in the world, below the United States and China.

So, can the EU and UK (collectively 18.4 Trillion) support a war effort alone against Russia (2.2 Trillion)?

Your call!

As long as the Ukrainian population wants to keep fighting, I agree to keep supporting them.
