I think Monahan OBJECTIVELY would've been a better choice because of the cap space freed (3M is not nothing). We can add another defenseman if we had to and because we had cap space, we could've leveraged in a trade with a team that was in need of cap space.

IMHO.

But Lindholm is better player, hence more expensive.

Monnohands is 36 and is a serious puck sucker. Lindholm is 29 and a star.

Just so you know Alf, Monahan is from the same draft year as Horvat. Same age. Not 36.

An idea lost on some apparently.

If the goal was to pay less we should have just traded a 7th for Bonino. What an idiot Allvin is!

Could've gained 3M if they had traded for Monahan. 3M + our cap space.

I dunno. I think Monahan would've been the better all-round trade for the Canucks to add a piece.

He's not.

PA and co have thought this through and Lindholm is a better fit.

Monnohands has the body of an old puck sucker. Only a Moran (Benning) would prefer him over Lindholm

I see...so hes played in 62 games less in the NHL yet hes somehow gotten 9 more years added to his body.  Makes complete sense.

A lot of Flames fans feel Conroy fleeced Allvin and the Canucks. Interesting take.

Apparently Lindholm was a floater and they think they have a number one blue chip top prospect in Brzustewicz.

🤔

Flames fans I know all say Lindy obviously didn't want to stay in Calgary, and they all know he's a very good addition for us. They're okay with this hockey trade and happy they're going to rebuild, at a little.

Lindy is a huge addition to our team. Anyone thinking he's going to float on the #1 team in the NHL is out to lunch. He's also a family man now, which means we have a very good chance of re-signing him.

Uhh elephant in the room is if we can re-sign him (to a reasonable contract). If we can re-sign him then he's worth the ransom we gave up, if we can't then this was a horrendous misuse of organizational assets.

thats the player we need in the playoffs when faceoffs mater... here is our number 1 PK center for the rest of the season...

This is a very good point. One of the area we still needed to improve on is the PK and this trade will really help in that department.  Flames had a pretty good pk ranking.

We're significantly better with this deal

And it’s not even close. Old Alf just doesn’t understand why some fans think they know better than proven winners like JR and Allvin? Just look at the recent adds. Hronek is brilliant. Lindholm will be amazing too.
