Rule 20.6 – On-Ice Video Review of Major Penalties (Page 33)

Referees shall review all plays that result in the assessment of any Major Penalty (other than a Major Penalty for Fighting) for the purpose of confirming (or modifying) their original call on the ice.

Such reviews will be conducted exclusively by the Referee(s) on the ice in consultation with other On-Ice Official(s), as appropriate, using the technology (for example, a handheld tablet or a television or computer monitor) specified in and provided pursuant to Rule 38.5.

Communication between the Situation Room and the On-Ice Officials shall be limited to contact between the appropriate Game Logger in the Situation Room and the Referee to ensure the Referee is receiving any and all video they might request, as well as the appropriate replay angles they may need to review the penalty call. There shall be no other contact or consultation between the On-Ice Official(s) and the NHL Situation Room, or with any other non-game participant.

The Referee shall only have the following options following video review of his own call: (i) confirming his original Major Penalty call; or (ii) reducing his original Major Penalty call to a lesser penalty for the same infraction

The refs screwed up!

The Refs or "Toronto"

You almost can see this happening to Canucks in the future and not getting the same call, saying "After review it was determined there was no elbow to the head (on called player in the box) and no penalty"

I wouldnt say comparing schedules is fear mongering and I wouldnt say it doesn't matter.  Home ice matters, especially against a team Ike the Oilers, where you need to match up against McD.  The Oilers have a much easier schedule and path to first in the Pacific than Van does and they're not likely to lose many more games if they stay healthy.

I'm not so concerned about the Oilers, but they need to stay ahead of Vegas, imo.

So are you saying we are where we are now because we've just completed the "easier" part of our schedule?

Oilers will play 37 games in the 2 months following the Allstar break, we'll play 33.  Doesn't that make our schedule easier?

And three against the Jets

This is interesting and gives a bit of perspective on remaining schedules. Like games in hand, the same adage applies - have to win the easy games and as the Canucks (and many teams in the league have shown), there are no easy games and no one can be taken for granted.

Quality of competition.  Tye Canucks have the 5th toughest schedule remaining, tye Oilers 18th and the Knights 21st

Hard to argue that the Oilers are probably going to win at least three of the four games in hand the way they are going.

If the Canucks can get through the rest of this schedule with success and healthy, it actually might be an advantage over the Oilers and Vegas.......they'll be battle hardened and ready.

Within the remaining schedule our big tests will be against

Canes

Bruins x2

Red Wings x2

Jets x3

Avs x2

Knights x3

Kings x 4

Oilers

Stars

The boys will get a taste of playoff type hockey before the playoffs even start

True, I will be cheering on the other teams and hope for a 10-game slide for the Oilers who then finish 1 point out of the playoffs, but they probably are too good to miss the playoffs.

Yup, like I said, it could actually be an advantage if they come through it successfully.  They'll be ready for the playoffs while the Oilers and Vegas are on (somewhat) cruise control.

Sadly, the oilers are likely to finish first or second in the pacific

The won't be a popular take, but I'm okay with the call on Myers, even if the league and the zebras misinterpreted the rule for overturning a major...

For the past several years we've known the league is trying to crack down on head shots and even though the Myers elbow looked inadvertent, it did draw blood, which as we all know is the NHL equivalent of "causing injury".

Looking at it "glass half full", I think if Canuck fans were faced with the choice of having Myers or Cole kicked out of the game, the Giraffe would likely win in the biggest landslide since Gordo skunked Ujjal Dosanjh 76 to 3....

And that's what I was saying earlier. Who gives a rats ass about what we have to face going forward.

Every team has the same challenges.

The entire organization has shown this year that they are committed to building a winner.

Screw the fearmongering naysayers.

So because you're a small picture thinker, it's somehow fear mongering that others enjoy looking at the bigger picture?

That seems more than a little narrow minded

Be hard for them to finish first in the Pacific if Canucks finish first overall

LOL

Yes, because some here can predict the future yet, for whatever reason, have never won the lottery.

You can look at a big picture but you can't foretell the outcome of unplayed games.

Also......small picture = looking at the Oilers from December 21 onward and ignoring where they were before that. Big picture factors in the entire season/performance.

Same applies to looking ONLY forward with the Canucks and ignoring what they've done to date. Small picture stuff. Big picture includes all of it.

It's fine to be high on the Oilers....but they're just as likely to falter as this team is.

Good thing it wasn't Gaudreau he hit -  the penalty is more severe for kneeing to the head
