LAFC 3   Whitecaps 0

Totally deserved win by LAFC.  They dominated.  One of the poorer Whitecaps games this season.  Couldn't seem to get anything going.  They've scored one goal in the past three games.

Next up:  Colorado on Wednesday.

It was ugly....I kept waiting for the 'Caps to turn it around and they never did. I'm trying to think of one player who showed up, but I can't. Even Gauld looked invisible.

Would have been worse, but Takaoka made a couple of really good saves early....

Nice to see that some teams are upgrading their talent.

Olivier Giroud signs for LAFC, reunites with Hugo Llori

There's a new superstar striker in MLS, with LAFC officially signing Olivier Giroud to a Designated Player deal through 2025 with an option for 2026. He will join the club this summer as a free agent from Italian Serie A side AC Milan.

Giroud is France's all-time leading scorer with 57 goals. He is also third in appearances (131) for Les Bleus and is expected to participate in Euro 2024 this summer.

Colorado 1   Whitecaps 0

Three games in a row without scoring a goal.

The Caps had an excuse this time with Utvik being sent off with a red just at the end of the first half.  Unlucky bounce as he slid to prevent a goal and the ball hit his arm.  Not only a penalty kick but an automatic red card.  Harsh.

Even down a man throughout the second half the team played gamely but couldn't score.

Next up:  Seattle on Saturday.

Seattle 1 Vancouver 1

Gauld scores on a Penalty to tie the game late

Whitecaps avoid going scoreless in 4 straight

Whitecaps pretty much stole a point tonight.  They did not play well.   When even the announcers note that the teams are playing poorly you know it's a lacklustre game.

Vancouver dodged a bullet after a penalty kick probably should have been awarded to Seattle when Brown elbowed the ball in the box in the second half.

Next MLS game:  at home to Miami next Saturday.  Hopefully they rise to the occasion because if they play like they've been playing these last few games that game could become a Miami blowout.

Do you guys think Messi plays here on Saturday?

Probably not, and they will likely mention the turf as the reason.

Really hard to shake a negative perception, and the 'turf' issue goes all the way back to Edgar Martinez wrecking his knee in that BC Place baseball game.

Sad- as the stadium has multiple different turfs since then.

Quite a dilemma though, if you don't go, and he does play, you will miss an historical event. However if you go, and he doesn't play, you will be out a bunch of money, for an 'average' msl game.

Yeah, they can thank the officials for that point....and two really dumb plays by Nouhou. The foul that set up a free kick just outside the box which led to the penalty, was obvious and unnecessary. It seemed like after that, Nouhou was determined to "atone" for his mistake and only compounded it by trying to block the Berhalter strike from 20+ yards out.

It looked like SB struck it well, but that ball has little chance of finding the back of the net from there....

How the 'Caps survived the potential handball at their end, is a mystery to me.....as it was to Wileman and Caldwell, who both thought it was obvious....

Takaoka also got very fortunate in stoppage time, when substitute Pedro de la Vega hit the post from a very tight angle. It looked like Takaoka was guessing that he was going to cross and tried to poach, almost handing a late victory to the 10 man Sounders. (Nouhou was red-carded after the handball, as he had been shown a yellow earlier in the match)

While we await Messi & co., the Whitecaps have a game on Tuesday.  It's the second leg of the quarter-finals in the Canadian Championship.

The Whitecaps lead Calvary 2-1 from the first leg.  Game time is 7:30pm.  At BC Place.  Telecast on OneSoccer/Fubo.

Inter Miami's Messi tops MLS highest-paid list at $20.4m

Taking a closer look at the numbers in the article, it appears that Messi, at $20.4 million per year, is getting paid more than the entire Whitecaps roster ($15.2 million).

Whitecaps 0    Calvary 1   (2-2 on aggregate.)  (Whitecaps win 2-1 on away goals)

Whitecaps move on to the semi-finals of the Canadian Championships but in an uninspiring way.  They started a mish-mash of players in the first half so it was understandable that they didn't do much other than Veselinović  scoring an own goal.

They brought on White and Gauld in the second half.  An initial flurry petered out and both sides had a couple of chances to score but neither did.

Another scoreless game means the Whitecaps have scored one goal in their last five games.

"Uninspiring" is one way to put it....I realize that they didn't start the A-Team, but that could have been really embarrassing....

Wait til Saturday?

Yeah....Messi might not play, due to the turf, but Inter still has that guy from Uruguay who can really take a bite out of them.

Maybe they'll keep it to a "respectable" 3-nil loss....
