HKSR Posted February 3 Share Posted February 3 To VAN: Justin Schultz @ 50% To SEA: 2nd Round Pick A Stanley Cup winner, Schultz obviously has connections to Rutherford and the Penguins. 6'2" 193lbs RHD. He's older now, but he has always performed well in the playoffs including last year where he put up 10 points in 14 games in the playoffs while posting a +5 rating for Seattle. Miss Korea Posted February 3 Share Posted February 3 A 2nd round pick seems like a steep price to pay for a 3rd pairing defenceman. There's nothing about Justin Schultz that stands out anymore - he has lost that 2nd pairing spot to Will Borgen. Right now he's getting propped up by a far superior defender in Brian Dumoulin. Putting Schultz into a 2nd pairing on a top team isn't going to make us better. I think the Schultz ship sailed a long time ago. Would've been nice to see him sign with the Canucks instead of Edmonton. But right now? He brings a very limited skillset to the table now. His defensive metrics have gone up because he's played extremely sheltered minutes with sturdy D-men partnering up with him. For this reason, he's been occasionally scratched so Kraken rookies can get their feet wet in the NHL. HKSR Posted February 4 Author Share Posted February 4 I'm looking at his playoffs performance throughout his entire career and think he elevates his play in the post season. 0.5 PPG in his playoff career. 10 points in 14 games last season with the kraken while being tied for 2nd highest +/- on the team. Has played with Soucy already with Seattle, so might rekindle that chemistry immediately. There's more here than what regular season analytics point to IMO.
