Dear Trolling Oilers Fans...

Whether they play Vegas in round one or round two, the outcome is probably going to be the same.  Edmonton isn't going to make it out of the West if they can't get though teams like Vegas and Colorado, so it doesn't matter who they face in whatever round.

As for peaking at the wrong time?  How can you say that?  I recall you boldly predicting that this team wouldn't qualify for the playoffs.  You said this right as they began their winning streak.  A bunch of us dismissed you since this was the exact same team as last year (which cruised into the postseason).  They are legitimate threat in the regular season and competitive enough in the playoffs as well.  Whether they're good enough to win 16 games is a different story.  But I'm not sure what you were expecting the Oilers to do in their situation.  They fought their way out of a massive hole... and you're criticizing them for that?

The Coilers wouldn’t get past us either. They have a Baby Whiner for a captain and a Dryercycle for their next most important player. And their top D man was clearly kicked in the head (twice) while trying to milk a bull.

Seems fans from other Canadians cities are like us die hard fans but don't want us more then any other to win.

That I don't get why such a hate for us??

It’s our climate. The eastern cities supper with brutally cold winters and disgustingly humid summers. Then they see our beautiful city and us counting flowers in February and are jealous. We will always be hated. Especially recently when our home prices are so high so the losers from back east can’t move here. Now they know they are stuck. It’s funny! They can freeze in winters and melt in summers. F- them.

Only time I can remember Canada as a whole living Vancouver was the Olympic games.

After the make me laughs did the usual stuff trying to get the spotlight back.

Even that year we went to the finals TML had conference after conference to try to steal our thunder. What a bunch of jerks.

Now the Coilers like nobody gives us our due.

Used to love Tiger Williams always giving it back and sticking up for us out west.

They fired the coach.  That’s why they’ve been winning.  If they had kept the status quo then they would be a lottery team.  The new coach actually has a system in place and plays defence.  I wasn’t expecting that.  My comments were before the coaching change. Hindsight is 20/20.

However, even with a new coach they still won’t win a cup because they are a top heavy team like Toronto. Compare that to the Canucks who have 4 lines that can score.  On top of that we have a Vezina calibre goalie in Demko.  I don’t think Skinner is going to lead the Oilers to the promised land.  Once he gets into the playoffs, it will be a completely different story.

You're saying they peaked at the wrong time, but also attributing their success to a coaching change.  Surely you're not suggesting Edmonton have waited longer before replacing Woodcroft?  They have a more stable coaching system (which includes Paul Coffey) and a rugged, defensive style of play.  Aren't those great qualities to have in a playoff team?  It's not like the top six were scoring at a torrid pace during the run.

With just Knoblauch's games the Oilers have become the #1 PK in the league.  Their bottom six have not been scoring much but are putting in work on the defensive side.  Even guys like Evan Bouchard have completely bought into the new defensive structure.

Loved Tiger. Mrs. Alf has rookie cards from her favourite Leafs and has Lanny, Darryl and Tiger. Tiger was a 30 + 300 guy. Guys like that just don’t exist any more.

one of the reasons I think Miller is so great is because he plays with skill and toughness. He’s a skilled beast. Tiger was a beast who tried to play with some skill. Rare breed for sure.

You can’t win the cup with 2 lines.  Sorry.  And you need an all star goalie too.  They changed their coach and won 16 in a row.  Nobody expected that. You can’t think they are this good simply with a coaching change do you?

Fuck me, I walked into that one….  🥴

What happens when you take a 100-point team with a decent playoff pedigree... and teach them defensive structure?  You get the Knoblauch Oilers.

On the flip side, what happens when you take another 100-point team with a similar playoff pedigree... and teach them to abandon offence and just attack attack attack?  You get the the 23-24 Toronto Maple Leafs.

They suck, but I don't think they should be told to leave. Variety is the spice of life, makes for a most interesting hockey conversation then an echo chamber. We should welcome all fans to our board. If they are awesome like @Sabrefan1then we gain valued members, and if they are Oilers fans, they suck!

Don't mind the jab, the OPs jab, it's in good fun.   @Sabrefan1 and @qwijjibo are invaluable posters, this forum needs that to keep the blinders off.   What isn't cool though, are it feels like a few frequent posters actually detest the Canucks, but hide under a forum name that has some form of Canucks in the name or part of our lore in it.   90% negative win lose or draw...just enough nice things to make you think ok maybe it's just mental health issues around our club (which with any long time fan, it's understandable we've had suffering and loss).    Maybe there are some Oiler fans on this site, trolling in a consistent steady fashion.   Don't know.     Would sure be nice if they would just come out of the closet.    Same with any other fans (Flames?).   Toronto even too, though could understand why they'd choose the cowardly route and hide behind something to do with Linden, Smyl, Naslund or the Sedins in their name.

Enjoy the variety too, and agree it likely would become an echo chamber, especially regarding recent events.    Was great to see @Sabrefan1 return.   Didn't even realize @qwijjibo was a Habs fan first and foremost either.    Also,  just to be fair to all those old-timers,  around before expansion, they'd likely be a Habs or Leafs fan ... maybe even a Boston fan first.   Can't hold that against anyone.

IMHAO it’s beyond weird to post on another clubs’ fan forum. What reason is there to be here, as another clubs’ fan, other than trolling? We have off hockey threads where a poster’s hockey connection doesn’t matter. But posting about our club, as a rival fan, is beyond strange.
Our players are great! F all the rest.

I get what youre saying, but I am gonna go out on a limb and say that i'd find it difficult to see a 160pt Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr struggling to dominate 3v3 OT... not to mention the fact that the 93 Penguins had nearly 5 100pt scorers and almost 3 50goal scorers.  If we're talking talent and high end skill and meta, that Penguins team was extremely dominant.

They also had the defence and goaltending to back it up too as they were 3rd in Goals Against.

That was a helluva team and I don't think anybody questions how they have the longest streak in history.  Columbus on the other hand.......

The early 90's PENs, are ranked (rightly so) as a top ten team all-time.   In some ways, their fate lines up well with the 70's Boston teams.   Salary disclosure, and Mario's body kept them from another cup, but for nearly half a decade after, they were considered a contender if Mario was playing.   Like if Orr was ok.   Have a mag for the start of the 94-95 season.   Know who THN picked as their favourites coming into the season?   Wasn't the Rangers.   Boston should have won 3 in a row too.   A rookie named Dryden stopped that.

Penguins are one of a few teams all-time, that could have matched up with any dynasty.    They didn't have a weakness, and Mario was as good as Gretzky was in his peak prime.

Edit:  It's actually pretty cool that we have Tochett, who was part of that team.    Mario's comeback season, was on pace to challenge Gretzky's 212 and 215 point years...199 isn't too shabby either.     Both Jagr and Mario were far superior physical players than Draisatl is.    Skill-wise, Jagr is up there with McDavid on his own.

Ideally it would be nice, if fans were upfront about it.   Don't mind talking hockey with fans of other teams.   It's a pretty great compliment, if a fan of a different team, likes what they are seeing for us.   Like the way after our hot start, the talking heads crowned the Canucks as Canada's best hope for a cup this season.   Sure that dialogue pivoted once the Oilers machine roared back (well not really against us!).    It's also hilarious that happened to be an easy part of their schedule.   One win against a 6-10 team lol.   Most bottom feeders.   Let's see how things go the rest of the season.    It's a forum, can't control who joins.   Best way to deal with it, is internally by calling stuff out if it's out of line.    Isn't your wife a TO fan?   Poor Alf!   Personally never go to any other forums so get the sentiment too.     We've got the best one in the NHL.    The model that all other's were created, kind of like towel power it's so good, the rest wanted a piece too.

Yup, Mrs. Alf is a Leafs’ fan, and any player who she deems cute. She absolutely loves Cole Caufield. She knitted him little socks and mittens. In blue, of course!  🤣

  • 2 weeks later...

So, Edmonton just completed 3 games in 4 nights where they lost every game. Tuesday will complete 4 games in 6 nights with their game in Los Angeles. They have 6 more 3 games in 4 nights through the last part of the season including multiple 4 games in 6 nights and they close out the season with 5 games in 7 nights.

Really looking forward to them reverting to their losing ways and playing through exhaustion. Considering how much they overplay their top few forwards, they should be really tired by the time the playoffs start, IF they make them!

With LA picking things up, they're actually the only team in the West playing well at the moment.

Them and.... the Calgary Flames!??

Yeah, but it was a good one 👍

Edmonton actually wraps up the season with 6 games in 9 nights, 10 games in 18 nights. Yeah, they play Arizona twice in those last 6 games, but they also have to face Vegas at the start of their final 6 games, us at the end of their first 3 games in 4 nights and the Colorado at the end of their second 3 games in 4 nights.

They get 3 games in 4 nights, 3 times in just that last 2 weeks of the schedule....doing a happy dance...
