[Rumour] - Phil the thrill linked to Canucks

Kessel is being brought in because of his great personality in the locker room. Not on ice abilities.

I've read in the past that he's a great person to have in the locker room. His personality and ability to help the room stay relaxed and calm during a long playoff run are apparently what the Canucks management is hoping to get out of him.

He still scored 14 goals last year and is still considered an offensive threat

Kessel is consistently in great shape despite his appearance, and is one of the best personalities in the entire league.  If I could pick any active player to have a beer with, it's him.

Can 100% attest to the personality. Played poker with him at WSOP a few years ago - it was a lot of fun.

Question is....who comes out when the Thrill goes in?

Could it be a two way deal. He sits at minor league, practices with the big club till a spot opens up? Spitballing.

We will all just need to wait & see.

Mark me down as not a fan from the start. He’ll need to prove his worth, and RT shouldn’t over-estimate that, either.

"I will feel betrayed if he is signed the same way I was with Messier signing" and "just need to wait & see" seems like not exactly the same thing.

He might be able to score a few goals. But that's not the reason he's being brought in..

I don't expect him to see a lot of ice if we go deep in playoffs.

It's mostly the locker room stuff.

That goal against the canucks was last spring, for everyone thinking he's "old".... Here's a list of guys older than him still producing good numbers:

Player Team S/C Pos  GP G A P
Sidney Crosby PIT L C 49 28 24 52
Joe Pavelski DAL R C 53 19 27 46
Anze Kopitar LAK L C 50 15 27 42
Evgeni Malkin PIT L C 49 16 25 41
Mats Zuccarello MIN L R 43 9 31 40
Alex Ovechkin WSH R L 49 14 23 37
Brent Burns CAR R D 52 8 22 30
Kris Letang PIT R D 49 4 26 30
Blake Wheeler NYR R R 53 9 12 21
Nick Foligno CHI L L 46 11 10 21

Most forwards don't age like elite guys, Phil doesn't need to be elite though

He's not coming in as a savior, he's coming in as depth and that's great

There's no reason he can't provide depth scoring on the third or fourth line

Maybe he even fits on the second line, chemistry is tough to predict, he's got the smarts and track record to do it

Serious question....

After Hughes passes the cup to Kessel, who gets it 3rd? Petey or Miller?

Neither.  Hughes will either pass it to Demko or Boeser as our longest-tenured Canucks on the team, and then the guy he doesn't pass it to will get it third.

Oh shit.  I just jinxed us.  Sorry guys.  I shouldn't have taken the bait.  🙃

2 way deal only affects pay, no way he signs a 2 way deal at this stage. He’s more than earned that respect.

He’s no saviour, but he can step in and not hurt the team at all.
