What are the Canucks missing?

Recommended Posts

A forward who has a strong forecheck and can put up points (like a Joel Eriksson-Ek type player) and another steady stay at home defender like Tanev.

Honestly if you could poach Brandon Tanev with retained salary he'd be a great forward to have in our lineup and is actually a viable trade option.

Guys like Petey and Miller play their best alongside engines that can win them pucks. It's why Hoglander fitted well with Petey last game and why Miller looks less effective next to guys like Boeser who doesn't forecheck.

To what extent would a Jonathan Lekkerimaki call-up and a Phil Kessel emergence help address the Canucks’ lack of 2nd line snipers?

Miller-Pettersson-Boeser

Kessel-Lindholm-Lekkerimaki

Joshua-Bluegar-Garland

Mikheyev-Suter-Hoglander

Hughes-Hronek

Cole-Myers

Soucy-Zadorov

Demko

DeSmith

Kessel's not it. He fits the grizzled vet category, but he's not a leader of men type. Sure. He'd add some veteran experience and some goal scoring, but he'd just be a piece to put up and down the four lines where he's needed.

What we really are missing is an Anze Kopitar or Sidney Crosby type centre. Yea I know, in our dreams. But you get the picture. Bring in either of these dudes and BAM! We're a lock for Lord Stanley.

That is all.

Cheers.

Go Canucks Go!!!!!!!

Lawson Crouse. Would

love his grit and size and age.

Tanev or another top 4 D.

Toffoli or top 6 forward.  Kessel too old for that role, but good depth.

Look at the SCF in 2011.  By game 7, Nux lost Hamhuis, Rome, Raymond, Samuelson.  Rest were banged up including Kesler and Erhoff.   Nux dressed Jeff Tamberlini, Tanner Glass and Victor Oreskovich in game 7.  Alberts was not good, and Tanev was a rookie.

I wonder, did the Penguins have an enforcer/pest when they won their cups with JR and PA? Anybody knows?

Tom Sestito.   Played about half the games .. not sure about the playoffs.   Their first cup with Crosby, they had quite a few guys who could backs themselves.    Hornqvist was a pest on those teams, at least infront of the net, Cole and Doumolin .. they had a bit of pizzaz.

Keeping things perspective...

What do the canucks need?... Fan appreciation.

Last season after 53 games:

21-28-4 (46 points)

This season after 53 games:

35-12-6 (76 points)

30 point increase in one season... Is that a NHL record turn around in one season?  Simply amazing.  What a fun, exciting time to be a canuck fan.

Just saying...

^THIS^ Ever heard the saying "if it ain't broke..."

Before we explore what the "fans" think the Canucks need to win the Cup, let's explore what the club is currently lacking in order to be the top team in the NHL...and the team to beat in the playoffs (I'll address that further down). Firstly, WE ARE the top team in the NHL...6 points clear of 2nd place in the league and 12 points clear in our Division. Basically, nothing needed and nothing can be predicted. Let's grab a solid top guy in case of injuries...OK...how many should we grab? How many injuries will we have? Will they fit the team chemistry or just sink us further? Who do we waive in order to make room for the new player(s) and thus further disrupt our current chemistry?

Now let's address the playoffs...who's our first round opponent? Our second round opponent? All we know for sure, based on the current first round setup, is that it will be a team from our division that (as mentioned above) we currently lead by a country mile in hockey terms.

The Stanley Cup playoffs is all about matchups. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with who is the best team overall in the NHL. To be the best team in the NHL you have to beat everyone else to the finish line...better than 31 other teams (it's called the President's Trophy). To win the Stanley Cup you just have to be better than 4 other teams on any given 2 week stretch. 100% inability to predict who that might be...and 100% unable to predict how the matchup goes.

So what are we lacking? Nothing...and nothing can predictably be done about it. Now...speculate away folks...

Two big top 6 forwards that have skill and a mean streak in them and can drive play and a top 3 dman.

That's a big ask at this point in the season. I don't think they're that far away. Even finding one of those asks is going to be costly at this point. Have a feeling they'll find a great fit that no one's talking about. We will question it at first like always then praise them for delivering. I believe we have a good chance if we can enter the playoffs with everyone healthy. Just my 2 cents.

When it comes to trading players for playoff pushes, JR is one of the most trigger-happy executives out there.  If there's a potential trade to be made, Trader Jim will see it through, for better or for worse.

No need to fix a thing . Our injuries dictate that both Soucey and Joshua are what is missing.

So continue to call up to see where they fit. Damn sure we have a couple of grunt and grind forwards and defenceman.

Bains and Woo should be given every chance to show.

The mention of sitting Juulsen! He has the same effort that Tanev had at that age. No fear of blocking hitting or shooting.

Get Woo in , sit Myers.

Forwards are pending who needs to play lower and be effective. Who needs to move up and can instill mayhem in front of the net. Mik needs to ride the pine for his own good. He is not 50% speed or involved.

The power play reverts back to October. Pk needs more IQ.

Sure l can take good with bad. Only an opinion that could help our lost paths. Trying to add without buying or giving prospects away. And draft picks.

I think the Canucks are trying too hard to accommodate Lindholm and have broken up the Lotto Line as a result.

Keep the Lotto Line in tact.

Miller-Pettersson-Boeser

Let Mikheyev-Lindholm-Suter be a premier shut down line that can potentially chip in goals. Let these guys go out there and shut down/contain.

Put Hoglander with Bluegar and Garland while Joshua is out.

Miller-Pettersson-Boeser

Mikheyev-Lindholm-Suter

Hoglander-Bluegar-Garland

Lastly, as counter productive as they may sound, stop making trades. Right now, there’s a bigger risk in messing with team chemistry (which has been very good this entire season) than improving the team via trade.

At the end of the season, move on from Myers and Pettersson. Trade Pettersson for a boat load of picks and elite prospects (I love Petey but won’t be worth whatever cap hit he receives).

Re-sign Lindholm, Bluegar, Joshua, etc, to long term deals. Continue to
