[PGT] Diving Jets at Canucks

Wow. What a game. So intense. Definitely a possible playoff preview. I liked what I saw from our Canucks. Bummer though. Can't win 'em all, but most certainly a contest that could've had different results with a full, healthy line-up. (Soucy and Daks. Miss 'em for sure.) 

 

I'm not gonna go into details of any shortcomings observed from this game. Many of you have done that already as has been done ad nauseam in the ol'CDC and here in CFF after a loss. 

 

We've got a team that can hang in the playoffs. There's no doubt in my mind. That being said...............

 

I do believe we're missing pieces; big ass forward, big ass D puck mover. Even with a full, healthy roster! Other pieces? Get that PP up to par. As mentioned earlier of this game; coulda' been the difference between a win or a loss.

 

Someone mentioned a heart 'n' soul type player earlier on. Yea. I can dig that. Heart 'n' soul by committee is fleeting at best. Ya' need the one that can carry a team on their backs. Do we potentially have that player in our lineup already?!?!??!?!?!??? Y'all tell me. Do we?

Against NYR, FLA, CAR, TBL, BOS, COL, VGK, WPG, DAL whom we can all suggest are strong contenders the Canucks are:

W - 7

L - 4

OTL - 3

Thats good for 17 out of possible 28 points.

 

There have been poor performances as in the game against Boston absolutely. Vegas and Colorado games were not the best of efforts.

 

Strong showings against Dallas, Florida, and Carolina.

 

Sure Boston dominated Vancouver, the Canucks absolutely schooled the Rangers. 

 

Sure Vegas showed they can dominate when last playing Vancouver. Well the Canucks put on a clinic versus Dallas.

 

Its a long season yet and yes the Canucks play more serious opponents and will lose some games. They will be just fine.

Come on boys. Sort that the fuck out. It's embarrassing to watch.

When we drove on net we scored, wasn't enough of that. It's the kind of game where you need a kuzmenko to do something different. Just one loss but like the powerplay you have to change things. 

 

They had 5 game losing streak and toronto spanked them.

Agreed, Boeser is basically just a body at this point, essentially 4 v 4 when he is out there. I will forever argue we should have kept kuzmenko and traded Boeser while he actually had value for the first time in years. But as usual, people see a small sample of him scoring garbage goals and think he’s the next Matthews. He’s not and any line he is on had a distinct disadvantage.

Pettey is a great player when on, but this year he's really MIA in the bigger games (vs vegas, avs, minn, dallas, boston etc). I don't want him to fail i want him to takeover parts of the game and it hasn't happened often enough. It sucks as when he is on he is elite.

Juulsen will learn from this... He has been really good since he became a permanent member of the D core. And he is one of our best and bravest PK defenders...

Struggling to understand all the crying and finger pointing towards the defence...

 

The forwards scored ZERO goal despite creating lots of opportunities, and the PP is really the issue... They are being held scoreless too easy... reminds me of the Sedins, when their PP went into a dark hole....pass pass pass pass......pass pass pass.

 

Its was a good game, and an exciting game... had playoffs feel to it all the way through... Would love to see a Tuch, or somebody, who can swing them, without being lost of the ice...Need a bit more bite.

 

Finally, Mika is a black hole just now, man he is snake bitten.

They don't make support players like they use to anymore either.    JT Miller, and Mathew, Brady  TckPuke are the modern day power forwards.    Even guys like Kassian are harder to find.   We had one of those maybe in Gadjovich, but Green felt Chiasson was the teams best chance at winning (he was correct), stupid risk should have gave him a shot.     

 

Personally dont feel there is much difference in skill between the top AHLers and most fourth lines.   Watched McEwen when he played the baby Canucks,  was tough to handle, became a fringe NHLer.     Maybe we should be looking there too (AHL).

Goal scorers are streaky.   Brocks in a funk.   Courtnall and Adams had theirs too.   It happens.     Why in the world would we keep Kuzmenko?     At least Brock back checks and isn't trying to be cute two or three times a game and give the puck away.   Garbage goals?  Can't tell if you're being serious.   Vedder dupe account confirmed?    Don't remember anyone comparing Brock to Mathews.

Canucks can't handle Blues to tough and heavy,

Canucks can't handle wild 

Canucks can't handle Vegas (while true) it went to game 7.

 

Point being, just because we lost to Boston and Jets, doesn't mean we won't beat them in the play offs... have faith...

 

Maybe not winning these close games is a blessing in disguise... It's going to be hard and a real struggle, but now the players know it too...

And yes put the PP up on blocks. Remove the engine and drive train. 

Check for leaks and worn out parts. Clean everything up and torque down your all star parts. Add a turbo charged Hogs or Zadorov to the mix. Make sure the timing is right.  And go!

I hated that game but loved how the team responded until they unraveled a bit. Thanks to atrocious reffing, once again. Hacks. As Imac said...teams should not get the same ref two games in a row. There was carry over, as he had an agenda with Hoglander. Garland throws a good solid hit in a board battle and RIGHT IN FRONT OF FURLATT the fatally wounded Jet gets up and absolutely mugs him away from the play. Headlock, really? And...nothing. I'm tired of the horsecrap they call officiating. And yes, a team has to learn to battle against it but come on. Let's give one team allowance to do more...that seems fair. I liked the response the boys had....but the refs clearly didn't. Game was getting out of hand and frustration set in for sure. Had a playoff feel but even Huggy was pissed off at one point. And not taking what they were laying down (it was cute).

 

People say the reffing doesn't decide a game but it sure can give one team momentum. Jets are big bad players who dish it out but can't take it. Our guys played a physical game, outhitting them and not backing down and I really liked that. Juulsen was having a good game until he seemed to emotionally have had enough of the crap.

 

Our pp has to figure it out, that's for sure. I like how JT moves around and makes quick decisions but too much of the guys throwing it around on the outside. Passes then intercepted.

 

Hellebuyck was solid but he had a clear view of the first couple of goals. Jets made sure not to get in his way.

 

It was a good but frustrating game overall. I am encouraged at the way they lost (they battled hard) and it was disappointing when those last 2 Jets' goals were scored. I hate them.

As I said the power plays were the difference.  
 

Canucks got 3 out of 4 points vs the Rangers and lost the 4th point to a blown non-call on EP40.   Not sure I would say  the did poor in those games.

 

I would also suggest that they played well against top teams like the Stars, Panthers, Canes, Oilers and Leafs.  
 

What I take issue with is some fans cherry pick teams they played poorly against and assert  the Canucks don’t stack up against stronger competition.   (’m not saying you do)

However is there an excuse for these teams that are below them in points?  It cuts both ways.  The evidence of strong competition they beat gets ignored or explained away by the doubters.

 

Looking at the body of work the team has put together as a whole so far is nothing short of impressive.  
 

The Canucks will need these tough tests to prepare and adjust for the playoffs. I think it is very good that they are playing top teams in the back end of the season.
 

 However, some losses are expected. Maybe at a higher rate than has been the case so far as teams play tougher hockey going into the postseason.
 

 I am saying  there is no need for panic after a loss as is customary in Canucks fandom.

Realistically, right now, I don't see the Canucks as a true playoff contender, they've got some serious work to do and a tough schedule to do it in.  If they can't beat the jets, oilers, knights, avs they're probably not going far in the post season

The way I see it,we are just not there yet. That was a very entertaining game last night. But the management have more work to do. I think they have done a very good job bringing in players that have launched us forward. Improving the team takes time, as the pieces required cost assets in return. I'm really enjoying this season so far.
