It's actually pretty interesting to figure out what Carolina must have offered.

If Petey doesnt do a team cheap ass deal, the signing will only cement what the canucks are looking for in a trade.

Maybe the offer was good enough to Allvin tell Petey’s agent that they were going to make the deal if a new contract wasn’t signed before the TDL?

And, if that’s the case, then the offer would have to be damn good. So it’s likely Aho +++

Hard to believe the management would do such a thing.  This is something that could really affect

their reputation amongst the players (as well as future players) and cause dissention on the team.

Such a behaviour could have put EP off the team and decided he would like to play elsewhere.

Being an RFA. Carolina would only be guaranteed next season, so EP has $ & term choice,

or can walk as a UFA.

Both the player and the club are trying to manipulate the situation to their advantage: the player by refusing to negotiate until after playing a key role on a (hopefully) deep playoff run, the management team by calling the player's bluff: Hey, you don't want to play in a hockey-mad market, we'll trade you to Carolina.

I think it speaks volumes about this management team: they're approaching this trade deadline with a view to adding significant core pieces, not just for the rest of this season but beyond. They don't have time to wait around for Petey and his representatives to come to the table when it's convenient for them.

PA, JR: go get it!

Yup. A trade could still be what happens. We can’t agree to terms with Petey so we move on. And it would happen before this TDL too. Lots of clubs, who don’t have an elite 1C would be making offers.

Agreed, what do they value Petey at?  I know a lot of people would want a similar player back, but that didn't work out so well for Calgary

The funny think about all this Petterson talk is the East sees him as a "SuperStar" and nobody looks at Demko, Miller, Boeser, Hughes, as being an affordable core that can live without Petey's new cap cost, could get some great puzzle pieces back, and allow us to sign a few UFA's this summer that we need to keep, and add to the core.

All they are trading for is Petey's next (RFA) season.  It's up to him to decide where he wants

play after that.

If I'm getting a 23 3rd oa pick 3C that can give me 20 goals and is cost controlled for a long time, sign me up.  You might get lucky with a $2m guy short term, then if they over perform, they'll be expected to be paid.

Cost controlled is overrated.  There was a time when Loui Eriksson was cost controlled.  $5M for what JK brings is not worth it.  Period.  He makes more than Garland or Mikheyev.  He'd be ripped apart here.

Petey is my favourite Canuck, but I truly believe they're not getting to the promised land without a deal where one core player goes out and 2-3 good pieces come back.

I would preferred Miller, but that ship has sailed once they got rid of Bo

Exactly why Van wants to sign him now, at whatever Petey wants. No trade contract? effective next september. There it is.

Disagree completely.  Cost controlled of a 23 year old, former 3oa pick is a great thing

Who cares if he's a 3oa pick?  If we cared, Puulujarvi would be a major target for 31 teams.  As he is, he is a $5m 3C that plays less than 10min a night.  That is not good value at all.

Maybe because he will have his 8 best years coming up, while Miller most likely isn't going to play at this level for the remainder of his contract.

Perhaps yes !

we would have to pay handsomely...

petterson and hoglander perhaps for the two...

Why? We are giving up a "SuperStar" I dont think Brady is even close to a Miller, let alone a "SuperStar"... oh wait, the superstar is Petey?

You keep saying 3 OA like it matters.  Him being picked at 3rd was way off the board and if you look at his stats he’s done nothing in his nearly 400 games to justify being picked that early.

Why do people keep talking about trading him?
