Hopefully, with the contract distraction in the rear view mirror now, we can see the Elias Pettersson that we saw during the 2nd half of the 2021/2022 season.....or the Pettersson that we saw during the first 10 games of this season. I think it is a bit of a discount. Nylander set the market with his extension at 11.5×8. Nylander is older, a winger, and has a career high in points of 87 (though he'll exceed that this year). Pettersson is younger, a center, and has a career high of 102 points (and on a similar pace this season). It’s what happens in the immediate future that really has my interest to be honest. To me, the signing puts an actual value on his performance which, until now, has been not been a primary issue. Living up to the 7.3 he’s been receiving will certainly be a cakewalk in comparison to the new bar set. I think anything less than peak Petey over the last twenty games and playoffs, will get the collective tongues in the market wagging, likely uncontrollably.
