He also managed to find Hoglander, although it remains to be seen if he can stick as a top 6 forward. I'm just simply saying Dallas' overall track record in their draft and player development has been superb compare to not just the Canucks, but the rest of the league - without tanking. TUSK v2.0
6 hours ago, Bardown said: Demko was a second rounder youre supposed to include "Too be fair" in front of that. Also, Hoglander is a second rounder, and likely part of our Core 2.0 (hogs, Podz, Lekermaki, Willinger, Slivos)

Any pick that wasn’t our highest was a scout’s selection. Benning picked “his” guy (except for Petey) with our top pick.

Benning, the Moran, always insisted on “his” guy with our top pick. The same management group who hasn't been keeping their 2nd round picks? They've yet to use one, they've gone to Detroit and Chicago respectively Stank went in the 2nd round, the Canucks have a frustrating history of trading their 2nd's away instead of using them, which is a shame because that's where we got Demko and Hoglander But they're the only notable successes we've had in the 2nd in ages

Hintz, Robertson and now Stankoven. We were ahead of Dallas and could have drafted this guy... Drafting and development are precisely why Dallas has maintained their ability to be competitive more often than not. Just as they appeared to be fading with Benn and Seguin they hit gold with Hintz, Robertson, Heiskanen, and Otter. Now they're seeing further success with guys like Johnston (23OA, 2021), Harley (18OA, 2019), Stankoven (47OA, 2021). You can throw Grushnikov (48OA, 2021) in there too as he was a good enough prospect to help them reel in Tanev from Calgary. 8 hours ago, Wing said: There are other teams who passed on the Stankoven too. My main point is 2nd round picks can have high value if you can find the gems and develop them properly. Dallas has never really tanked to the bottom and drafted in the top 10 in recent memory, except when they jumped like 10 spots or something to draft Heiskanen at 3rd overall. I just envy their ability to keep finding players after the first round who become part of their core. Oettinger is also a late first round too. That seems to be an organizational philosophy, wish we were similar. They stress drafting and development in a way the Canucks haven't, at least not as long as I've been a Canucks fan. I'll go back to 2000, nice round number, and take a look at how they've handled their top two picks. The 2003, 2007, 2008, and 2023 drafts are the only drafts they haven't picked a player in the first round since 2000. The 2001, 2006, 2016, 2019, and 2020 drafts are the only drafts they haven't picked a player in the second round since 2000. Many of those years they have multiple 2nd round picks. 6 hours ago, Miss Korea said: If he keeps it up, he will be the odds-on favourite to win the Calder next year. Celebrini will have some stiff competition. There's a good chance, Dallas nabbed another good one. Edited March 6 by Coconuts

That's not a notable achievement, the Oil were garbage at the beginning of the season, it'd be more impressive if they managed it against the Oil of the past four or so months. We'll see them again towards the end of the season and see how things go. Maybe they'll take a feather out of Dallas's cap and start retaining their picks better.
