Especially if Mik wakes up along with him - it looked like they were really starting to gel there. 1 1 1

Höglander - Pettersson - Toffoli Podkolzin - Miller - Boeser Greenway - Lindholm - Mikheyev Joshua - Blueger - Garland that group could go toe to toe with anyone.

Popular Post JamesB
Loved this game. Here are some of the reasons. 1. The Canucks started strong from the opening faceoff. They were helped by a 4 minute high-sticking minor against the new guy (Mantha) and ultimately scored a PP goal. But they were ready to play and played 60 minutes of Tocchet hockey. 2. The PP goal came just after the 4 minute minor expired but the Canucks were still on the PP because of a between-the-whistles scrum. I have always favored penalizing the roughing that often occurs in the those scrums and, by scoring on the PP, the Canucks made it a lot tougher for Vegas to turn the game into a goon show. Having a good PP is a great deterrent. 3. And the Canucks only took 2 penalties--showing good discipline-- and only had to kill off one PP. 4. The Canucks were good for the whole game, getting a 2 goal lead and shutting Vegas down in the final period. As the chasing team, Vegas got some shots late so the Canucks ended up outshooting Vegas "only" 35-28. But the all-strength expected goals numbers were 3.58 to 1.72 for the Canucks. Maybe not quite "dominant" but a very solid win. 5. As for individuals, Demmer was named first star. He played well but that surprised me a bit as the Canucks did not give up a lot defensively. Vegas was credited with only 7 high danger chances (compared to 13 for Vancouver, almost entirely in the first two periods before the Canucks switched to shutdown in the third). 6. Hughes had another excellent game. He has just been relentless. He does not give the impression that he is having fun, but he looks totally focused. The entire D has been very good on this road trip, giving up only 1 goal per game. It helps that the Canucks have not taken many penalties. While Myers has been better this season than previously, it looks as the though the Canucks do not really miss him--and especially don't miss his penalties. Juulsen just continues to impress and is even breaking the puck out and and carrying it -- looking calm while doing it -- a huge turnaround. 7. Hoggy and Garland continue to play well and I want to say something good about Mik and Lindholm. Both guys have been disappointing in recent games but they both played well tonight. 8. The Miller-Boeser-Mik line did not get on the board tonight but they were matched primarily against the Eichel line and outplayed them, with Mik playing very well defensively. And going with Petey-Miller-Lindholm as centers on the top three lines looks good. 9. Finally, nice to see PDG get on the board. That entire line (with Blueger and Podz) played pretty well although Podz ended up as the low man in expected goal differential. It is a bonus that Edmonton and Vegas both lost despite picking up significant rentals today. Hoping for the Canucks to pull away further in their upcoming homestand.
