Podkolzin's game is looking very mature and ready to be tested in bigger games down the stretch. His puck retrievals, having a busy stick, and just being in ghe right positions really fed into Lindholms defensively responsible game. He moves his feet well and can be a very powerful skater. I like him in that spot, just need to get him some offensive game going to give him the confidence to be more bold. Like a lot what I have seen from him. Love also hoe Zadorov and Juulsen really neutralized WPGs forrays and were hard nosed together. Just heard on 650, that Ian Clarke quickly left the box to check on Demko in the locker room when he left the game. Apparently he was only in there for a couple minutes and back up in the booth. That suggests it is nothing to serious. 4 3

If he's ok I hope Demko gets to sit out more games Maybe share the rest of the season 50-50 with DeSmith? This puts him to around 54 to 56 games, the apparent sweet spot for starting goalies.

Popular Post JamesB
"Deadline moves? We don't need no stinkin' deadline moves!" 1. Great win against an excellent team. It was the second game of back-to-backs for the Jets, but they had won all 6 of their previous second games in back-to-backs, so I think the Canucks deserve full credit for a dominant performance. 2. The Jet had a good chance on the first shift when Demmer lost his stick, but the Canucks completely dominated the first period from then on in probably their best period of the season. With 20 shots, they had their highest first period shot total of the season. They had a lot of great chances and could have had another goal or two in addition to the 3 that did score. 3. Remember when the Canucks were slow and soft. Tonight they were fast and played a tough physical game. They played excellent defence and were dangerous in the O-zone and dominated in the advanced stats. 4. After building a 3-0 lead in the first, the Canucks throttled things back for the second and third, generating fewer chances and playing tight defence, but they still picked up 2 more goals. 5. I think Hughes was the player of the game. When he was on the ice at 5-on-5 the high danger chances were 14-2 for the Canucks. The Canucks were credited with 17 high danger chances at 5-on-5 in total and Hughes was on the ice for 14 of them, and he gave up very little defensively despite being matched against the Scheifele line. He looked like a Norris trophy winner tonight. And, with 2 assists tonight, he just tied his own Canuck record for points in a season by a D-man with 16 games still to go. 6. It is hard to come up with anything negative about any Canuck player. Hoglander had a big night, but so did his linemates (Petey and Suter). Also, even though Mik and Lindholm did not get on the board and continue to "underperform" in terms of scoring, they both played very well. The Garland-Lindholm-Podkolzin line gave up almost nothing defensively (3 high danger chances for, 0 against and the scoring chances were 5-1). I am happy with that third line. The Miller line was also very good. 7. The only negative on the night was the Demko injury. We don't know much and are not likely to get much information as teams never want to give out information on injuries that might help other teams. It looked like it might his groin (again). We are all just hoping it is minor. With 91 points, the Canucks could probably guarantee making the playoff with maybe 2 more wins, so there is no need to rush Demko back. And DeSmith was good again tonight. Also, if it makes sense to put Demmer on IR for a while, it is a positive sign that Silovs had a 27-save shutout in the AHL tonight after a somewhat disappointing season. If he has found his game that could be a big plus. And there are various indications that the Demmer injury seems minor. 8. Great performance to silence the critics who said they should have done more at the deadline. Who on the team would you actually want to get rid of to make room for a new "depth player"? Popular Post IBatch
Stayed up until it was 3-0... Really wish Toffoli was there so we could see him disappear. Stoked this was yet another sign, we are a top team in this league, and that yet again, prove to the "but" crowd we've got a chance. We've been a targeted team now since Nov. Big difference closing out a season playing against the best a team can throw at us. Looking forward at seeing what NHL.com's power rankings are going to look like next week. What contender, haven't we beat this year yet? This week we were number two (again). Based on the Eastern Bias. Florida may have de-throned us, but the furthest we sank in their hypothetical "if the playoffs started right now" who would they pick to win it all, was 3rd! Based on the "SeriousHeadedTochhetDominaters", you'd think we were headed for blowing it all up this off season. Ahead of everyone but the Rangers and Florida...After we de-throned Boston. We've also spent the most time in the top 3, since 2024. Took some time to get the love, but since acquired, it hasn't wavered as much as some of the fickality on this site. Shout out to all that believe'd still. Soucy, can't say enough about this guy. Zadarov. Juulsen. Hronek. When's the last time, we've been as excited to have these types of guys on our team? We'd have to go back to Hamhuis, Erhoff, a young Eagle, and when Bieksa was finally accepted by this majority of this fan base (there was a time, when the CDC was all over him ... something that makes no sense, but was there. A lot of things came together quickly this year for the team. And that starts with JR/Allvin. What a job they've done. This team is run by cup winners. Not sure why CAR is getting brought up as an example of a team with an "easy way to the final", or that they were somehow "not deserving" and what the f!cking heck that has to do with this team. Sure Rutherford. CAR went to the final in 2002, and met one of the most stacked teams ever in Detroit ... made it back in 2006 (albiet with a couple new stars, Staal and Ward), it's not like they were a "one off fluke". And Pronger (no idea why he didn't get the Conn Smythe, he sure should have, but Ward was maybe just a valuable) had one of the best performances, by any defenseman, maybe the best i've seen, putting EDM on his back and getting to the final as well. Half the game he made sure nobody scored, his ability to control a game back then, was unbelievable. There's a reason why he won a Hart trophy, and he was at the peak of his powers. CAR earned their cup. Goofy revisionist history, like in 20 years, saying Vegas didn't earn theirs. Of course they did, no matter how that might make us feel. The players earned it. Sure hope that the bandwagon'ers and the ReBuild " the right way, is the only way" (subjective as heck) crowd, wear their seatbelts. And maybe keep the mega-phones in the closet until next season. Hasn't this team earned our trust? Get we've been through a lot, we aren't the only ones. This is absolutely amazing, the present, right now. In today's game, you can't expect six 25-30 plus goal scorers in your top six. That's been gone since salary escalation and expansion into CaLi, the South etc. There just aren't enough players to go around. And with cap restraints, almost impossible to buy. We've got a four line team. And a big D. 7 deep. Myers just may be this teams version of Ballard when healthy.
