[PGT] Jets at Canucks

"Deadline moves? We don't need no stinkin' deadline moves!"

1. Great win against an excellent team. It was the second game of back-to-backs for the Jets, but they had won all 6 of their previous second games in back-to-backs, so I think the Canucks deserve full credit for a dominant performance.

2. The Jet had a good chance on the first shift when Demmer lost his stick, but the Canucks completely dominated the first period from then on in probably their best period of the season. With 20 shots, they had their highest first period shot total of the season. They had a lot of great chances and could have had another goal or two in addition to the 3 that did score.

3. Remember when the Canucks were slow and soft. Tonight they were fast and played a tough physical game. They played excellent defence and were dangerous in the O-zone and dominated in the advanced stats.

4. After building a 3-0 lead in the first, the Canucks throttled things back for the second and third, generating fewer chances and playing tight defence, but they still picked up 2 more goals.

5. I think Hughes was the player of the game. When he was on the ice at 5-on-5 the high danger chances were 14-2 for the Canucks. The Canucks were credited with 17 high danger chances at 5-on-5 in total and Hughes was on the ice for 14 of them, and he gave up very little defensively despite being matched against the Scheifele line. He looked like a Norris trophy winner tonight. And, with 2 assists tonight, he just tied his own Canuck record for points in a season by a D-man with 16 games still to go.

6. It is hard to come up with anything negative about any Canuck player. Hoglander had a big night, but so did his linemates (Petey and Suter). Also, even though Mik and Lindholm did not get on the board and continue to "underperform" in terms of scoring, they both played very well. The Garland-Lindholm-Podkolzin line gave up almost nothing defensively (3 high danger chances for, 0 against and the scoring chances were 5-1). I am happy with that third line. The Miller line was also very good.

7. The only negative on the night was the Demko injury. We don't know much and are not likely to get much information as teams never want to give out information on injuries that might help other teams. It looked like it might his groin (again). We are all just hoping it is minor. With 91 points, the Canucks could probably guarantee making the playoff with maybe 2 more wins, so there is no need to rush Demko back. And DeSmith was good again tonight.   Also, if it makes sense to put Demmer on IR for a while, it is a positive sign that Silovs had a 27-save shutout in the AHL tonight after a somewhat disappointing season. If he has found his game that could be a big plus. And there are various indications that the Demmer injury seems minor.

8. Great performance to silence the critics who said they should have done more at the deadline.  Who on the team would you actually want to get rid of to make room for a new "depth player"?

Mik?

Its the Soucy addition.

Guy plays like a younger, bigger Tanev.

This exactly the vibe he gives... He is cool as a cucumber, and could play the entire game with a fag in his mouth... Just like Tanev

That’s loser talk. You keep playing hard and face whoever you face. Not gonna win a cup if you’re afraid to face certain teams.

Bingo.... them's fighting talk... We'll kill em all...

If management had concerns about next season, when they need to get rid of a few contracts to stay within the cap, this has come as blessing in disguise...

Yup. Myers’ six mil cap allocation will go to Hronek (+2.5) and Big Z (+.5) and still have 3 left to go to Petey. Trade Garland for picks and lots of room.

What a game, what a team, what a year!

Us Nucks fans are spoiled as F___. It's so awesome that my dad get's to see another up swing for the team. He has followed from the start and this may be his last window... A little more size would have been nice but I have faith in management that the right move at the right prince wasn't available, considering our cap situation. GCG

Even before this win streak, we had one of the best records against top 10 teams.

I don’t know why some people were pushing that narrative.

We hadn't managed to beat winnipeg, vegas, la or colorado, so people were worried. Now we've shown that, and in a complete way. Time to add the avs to the list.

A new identity is building... a team that shuts you down but has three 100 point scorers to counterattack.

McKinnon, Kucherov, and McDavid are Canucks ? Wow how did I not know that 🙄

Love also how Zadorov and Juulsen really neutralized WPGs forrays and were hard nosed together.

They give me Murzyn/Diduck vibes ... if it moves, hit it

4-0 in Mar so far

8 home games left in the month.

Depending how Demko is, just need to keep getting points.

2-3 wins to clinch a playoff spot.  Likely in a week or two.

The thought of selling high on Garland would have to be considered for sure

You know exactly what I meant.  Maybe Hughes is a bit off the pace now, but still likely to hit 90+ points.  Is there another team that has 3 guys in the range of 90 to 100 points?

Yup. On our club Garland is a very good third liner. There will be clubs that see him in their top six.

1st of all, a WHAT in his mouth???

2nd of all, adding Tanev as a UFA would be incredible.  To have soucy and Tanev out there would be amazing.

Hughes-Hronek

Soucy-Tanev

Zadorov-Juulsen

We'll see, who they trade, but definitely not going to be a big black hole vacated by Myers leaving...

Actually amazing to think we have a $6M injured and the team carries on as if nothing changed (or even better)... That is proper strength...
