Would we want a QHs Myers pairing? Nope. Dillon would be a QHs Schenn deal which is ok. Demelo has been a reliable top-4 stay at home shutdown defenseman for one of the best defense corps in the whole league myers was much better this year than previous years, but hes the chaos giraffe for a reason demelo is most often described as "reliable", sounds kinda perfect
Popular Post The Duke
3 hours ago, RupertKBD said: Firstly, I don't mean to pick on you Duke, it's just that I see a fair amount of posters saying if Z won't sign for X amount, then we just move on and sign player B. The above post just reminded me..... We have to bear in mind that with Zadorov, we have a player who has indicated that he wants to be here. There have been a lot of numbers thrown around, but none of us really knows what the asking price is, but it seems reasonable to assume that it's less than what he could get on the open market. What it comes down to is "how much less" and is that enough to fit within the Canucks' salary framework? TBH, I think this whole idea of saying "I don't think he's worth 6 x 6", (or whatever) really means anything. He's worth what he can get. Now, it's all well and good to say, "Let someone else overpay him", but the problem with that line of thinking is that once that contract is signed with another team, it becomes the benchmark for other FA contracts. You want to sign Dillon? Okay....what if he wants more than you think he's worth too? What if he doesn't even want to come to Vancouver? Same goes for Tanev....or Pesce. Somehow, you have to convince one of these guys to sign with your team. Why do we all assume that these other guys are going to be happy with what we want to pay, any more than Zadorov? Wishful thinking, IMHO.... Zadorov doesn't need convincing. He wants to be here. If it takes an extra million over 5 or 6 years, I don't think that should be a deal breaker for a player who brings the physical assets that he does to the table. I follow your logic! And I’d even add that we know Zadorov fits like a glove on this team. Makes the fact that not only can we sign him, it’s that much less risky. FWIW, Dillon was on Donnie and Dhali saying he’d love to come to Van as well. He’s a local guy. Does it mean less than Zad? Sure, but there’s a few connections beyond just a name. IMO he’s probably a better fighter than Zadorov, if not as good of a skater. Hes almost certainly getting a more reasonable contract, too, due to his age. After all that, though, I’m glad Allvin is in charge and not the fans. Can’t overpay a 4-5 LD when we already have a solid one for the next 2 years on a very reasonable deal… and a franchise Norris caliber LD in Hughes. There’s just no way to spin it as a wise investment once he’s above 5 mil.

But this was always going to be the case with the OEL buy out... Management will have to be smart elsewhere... As far as absolutely possible, we don't let go of D that actually works... Our D was one of the success story this year.. Far more chance of finding wingers that might breakout...

SilentSam
For those high on Dillon , I do not think he will be in this league for more than 3 seasons. If he comes here , it’s for money that would or should go to Myers ( 2-3m range) We will get the contract we need from Hroneck , or trade him. Should bring back a quality return. Zadorov is a must sign . Hearing 6m around the league offered. Surely 5 >5.5m x 6 does it ? 3
Coryberg
1 hour ago, MattJVD said: If the team re-signed Markstrom in the summer of 2020, you have to trade one of Markstrom or Demko before the expansion draft. Marky wanted a NMC (and got it from calgary) specifically for the expansion draft so he couldn't be exposed. Therefor a Markstrom contract meant demko had to go.
