Zads leaving allows GMs to know that we now need a premium asset at a premium position and that won't be cheap. Marino will be multiple picks or a middling pick and a young player. Who are we giving up for Marino? Hogs? For an RHD (big need but less than last year) that is middle of the road across the board. Hesitant to start seeing this management group start dumping assets to fill holes every year Podkolzin + mid pick Joshua returning for 4 years means a major roadblock for Podkolzin.
Petey O
He'll be missed, but I'm glad they didn't decide to overpay him. Bring in Dillon for pennies on the dollar and you have his physicality/meanness on the back end again. Dillon's not as good a player but he can replace the more coveted elements of Zad's game, imo. RupertKBD
If Z was truly asking for way too much, then I guess I'm okay with this....but if we let him walk over some arbitrary number like $250k, then I'm going on record as saying this was a mistake. I hope PA has something up his sleeve, because he might not like the numbers other agents throw at him on July 1st.

Suter was only on a 35 point pace, but the duo of Miller-Boeser sees a huge increase in CF and FF% when Suter is on that line. It produces better with him on it than when he's not. Suter-Miller-Boeser = 200ish points combined Hoglander-Petey-??? = 180 to 200 points combined Joshua-Blueger-Garland = 120 points combined Now if Petey got a legit top 6F ... say a Stamkos or Guentzel... Hoglander-Petey-Stamkos = 220 points combined Suter-Miller-Boeser = 200 points combined Joshua-Blueger-Garland = 120 points combined stats do not say the whole story. we saw him countless times missing the net from very close range. i would say Boeser and Milsy done great in despite of Suter. i would try Pod instead of Suter to add some grit, forecheck, backcheck and he has a hell of a shot. time to cash on our 10th overall pick

Probably in the 2's is more likely considering he'll likely take a hometown discount due to being outspoken about wanting to play for the Canucks.
Maniwaki Canuck
Trading for Marino doesn't make a lot of sense in that Hronek-Myers-Marino would block Willander on the RD depth chart for several years. Better to go with Juulsen for a year until he's ready.

Not sure how else to quantify the effect Suter has on those 2 main offensive guys of the line.
The Duke
I was fairly surprised when I heard Tanev (and Marino) were still high on the Canucks’ list. IMO that signals they didn’t think Zadorov was likely, as they weren’t getting him AND either of those two done.

Tells us he feels Juulsen is ready for the next step as a regular defender with this group. Saves a lot of cap space too.

Whenever Willander is ready he can slot in and we can trade Marino at the time for assets. Getting him and Dillon or similar big guys is not a bad backup plan

VanOriginal
If the Canucks get Dillon, whom I think they will and Hakanpaa who think they have a good shot at and can get both for under 6 then not re-signing Zadorov will be all but forgotten. I like Zadorov, I like his game, his character but if he wants more than 5 per, I'd also let him walk. This team needs more of a capable top 6 winger, which could be through UFA or trade. I also think this gives the Canucks a chance at Tanev for 4.5 if they wanted to go that route

So he’s 2-3 years away anyway.
