I've long said that winning will eventually expose the chronically negative. This season is an opportunity for change among the fanbase to not be so negative and actually enjoy being wrong. I also think a lot of people tend to forget or aren't aware that at times what people say to fit in on a message board (and why they say it) is completely different than how things really are. This also applies to social media. This season is indeed super competitive. Especially among the Canadian teams. We've worked hard to stay atop the division and league but nothing is a gimme or an easy path. No team should be ignored or taken lightly. The Jets have been a good team and the Oilers are a different team than when we beat them earlier in the season. You can't ignore that. Being aware and analyzing the dynamics around your competition is different than "concern" and being "worried" or cause for alarm. Like you, I've played as many seasons across competitive sports, and agree you can't be overconfident or cocky in a way that leaves you vulnerable or complacent. At the same time, you also can't give in to concern, worry, and alarm. That gives way to insecurity and weakens your mindset. Especially when you do know how your strengths are different and how they can be used to gain an advantage. That's playing YOUR game to your strengths within your identity. It's interesting what you mention about how competitive it really is and how we looked at the Kings earlier in the year. They had games in hand and many thought they'd be the ones passing us. It was really the Oilers we couldn't discount or ignore, which was easy to do after beating them three times to start the season. This is going to be an awesome playoffs and we'll be in for awesome hockey! We should be excited. Great post Doc! Yeah I'm sure a lot of us are misrepresented and completely not what you would expect in person. Some of us take conversing about these things very seriously and maybe get a little too wired into their own opinion. I know I'm certainly guilty on this and I work at being more even keeled. Deep down 97% of the people are here because they love the Canucks, we just have a diverse background of getting here. As they say confidence, or swagger bordering on cocky. It only takes a couple times of blowing a "sure thing" before one develops that laser focus to keep focused on the task at hand. The hardest day is tomorrow comes to mind. It just never lets up. The mental acuity required for an 82 game NHL season must be insane and exhausting. For how great our season has gone it's crazy how we just can't afford to let up at all with all the great teams around.
