If you're 45 or so or older, then yes you've got a free pass.   Doesn't mean we need to be bitter though.   And if you're going to be a realist, then the realist is we were a bubble team, on the low side of making a wild card spot this year.   And now are challenging to have the 3rd maybe even 2nd best regular season in franchise history.     No we haven't won anything yet, but from where i'm sitting having gone through the 80's growing up,  still haven't lost hope.   Don't count the 70's was still too young.   Realistically, now, with 32 teams, we should average a cup every 32 years - and just like flipping a coin, even if it's heads 99 times in a row, the 100th flip it's still 50/50.     Maybe just relax and enjoy it more.    Have seen mediocre regular seasons win cup(s), great ones win nothing.   Usually, it's one of the better ones that actually wins though, and this team absolutely is one of the better ones, even without Demko.

Trust me ,  You didn’t miss anything from the 70s. Although there didn’t seem to be a media bias back then like these days.  but the disrespect more so than not showed up on the scoreboard.

If you had to bet on one poster to have a moan about Pettersson after any given game, would you bet on:

43isprime?

43isprime?

43isprime?

That would be the Pettersson whose stats are 33-51-84.... Imagine a lousy player having these stats... 🙄

Sure he will be there when he's needed the most.   Guys figured out how to draw a penalty.   And he's got a pretty good idea what to expect come playoff time.

Amazed at the stick he is taking from some quarters...

Imagine being this blatantly obtuse when we by far have the best record against top 10 teams at 15-5-3 or a .717 win percentage.

How many of those wins have come lately? This team isn't playing like it was earlier in the season is all I'm saying. The concerns are justified. A 3-2 nail-biting win against a bottom feeding team won't change my mind.

Yeah, I was just being honest here.  I am a long time fan, if you count starting in 91.  The trepidation is baked in at this point. I just live with it.

That's why I can say I am of two minds. Part of me sees a few quirks and quibbles I could raise. The other part is stoked about the playoffs. And loves the job JR/PA have done.  Miller, the best acquisition in Benning's term. Thank gawd he wasn't around to drop him in favour of paying Horvat even more...which I could totally see happening with JB.  The list of support players which has pretty well been totally revamped. Our D. I could go on.  Believe me I'm ecstatic right now.

I try an find a balance.  Although I do admit I have a problem of seeing all the bad that can go wrong first, in order not to be too surprised and hurt when something goes south.  A natural defense mechanism, that I have used many time over the years with this team.

I think there is a difference between always seeing negativity, and seeing those same concerns but also seeing the positives.  And actually being able to enjoy those positives when they happen despite the concerns.  Its a fine line, where one or two here haven't learned to balance that yet and I feel sorry for them living in a cloud, waiting for the team to lose.  That's not me.  Its just that I can't pretend that this team looks as good as it did before the All Star break. But I also believe that this team has enough character and talent to turn it up to eleven once the post season starts. And we can beat anyone then, even team McJesus.

Thanks for your honesty. Appreciate it. It's refreshing around here.

We're not far off in our viewpoints in many aspects. I'm just not invested in the concern and alarmism because - in my experiences - how things are now aren't necessarily how things will be next week. I just don't go to those absolutes. It's what I was saying during that amazing run with Bruce ... I was saying this team is better than what you're seeing now, so being overly concerned, doom and gloom, will change. Especially with our core maturing. Thankfully, we finally have competent management that knew this.

I'm not pretending that the team hasn't been struggling since the ASG - no one's asking anyone to pretend - I see it - but that doesn't mean we won't get it together. Our numbers as of late aren't that bad at all. There's been a lot of good. We have the talent, skill, and pieces to do so. And we've been a top team, so I'm not as concerned as some.

I get the whole finding balance dilemma. It can be difficult after so many losing seasons. Also with the Benning era so fresh. It's important not just individually but also collectively to strike a healthy balance as a fanbase. There needs to be a balance otherwise it's just all negativity and collective toxicity.

I've said this before a couple of times but I used to admin a popular message board (in a different industry) just like this one only much, much bigger. I've seen all of these patterns of behavior and language many times over. I've seen and experienced firsthand the extremes of where online negativity can lead and what toxic tribes of people can do. Some things you absolutely wouldn't believe. What people do and say on a message board - and why they say it - and why they behave a certain way, their motives, and what their behavior is governed by - is complex and shouldn't be looked at as reality. That's the problem. The same goes for social media. I'm actually thinking about writing a book about it, I'm passionate about it, so apologies for the tangent. lol

At least you're honest about the defense mechanism rather than simply being negative and angry as a deflection. In my view, too many people are afraid of being disappointed so it's easier to be negative as protection. At the end of the day, it's really fear of being disappointed. That can be conquered or at least looked at in a different light.

Looking forward to these next few games and the post season. It's been a long haul for fans both good and bad. It could be negative but I'm not going there. 😉

Three straight wins against LA/Vegas/Winnipeg at the beginning of the month just didn't happen I guess.

In trying to describe the Messier era to my wife, I explained, "he may as well have skated laps with a cigarette while giving the fans the finger". Too harsh?

I'd say "he may as well have sat on the bench with a cigarette while giving the fans the finger"

Thanks.  They don't call you Doctor for nothing.

I try and approach every game, regular season too, positively.  In fact I've never made a prediction score where they lose, even when they were, well, losers. I can't start a game with that kind of preset. I couldn't enjoy watching that way.  Its more of an general defensiveness, spanning decades. I hate that I have it. I'm working on it.  A first round win would help greatly.

I don't really get it, some folks always look for the worst angle on this team.

I wonder if it is just long term fatigue having so many high expectations over the years and still no big prize. "Here we go again" syndrome.

I play a lot on the BC Lottery Corporations sports betting pages on Playnow.com. I bet "the Canadian" a lot which is five games, the outcomes are multiplied across every combo of the five, so i can get 1 or 2 wrong and still win money, it is about 1/3rd of my bet back if i only get two right: I rarely get less than two right. Often I get 4/5 or 5/5. Anywho...the point of the long winded story is, I know to bet on the team most likely to win, even if that team is playing against Vancouver. I am an optimist when it comes to our club, but when it comes to my money, I am a realist. No shame in calling it like you see it. This year is super easy to be an Optimist, because I see that they can win every game they play, and in fact have won nearly 70% of them. That is not too shabby!

I fit that category. Watching since day one and while I always hope for the best my expectations are tainted by year upon year of disappointment.

Even those occasions when we got to the big dance and it looked like we could win the prize the rug seemed to be pulled out from under us due to injury, penalties and/or suspension.

Sometimes it feels like we have no luck but bad luck as the target comes into view.

Who knows , maybe this is the year the stars align and things go our way. I believe we’ve got the players and the coaches to get it done, just need some things to roll our way.

On the one hand Lindholm going on the trip is encouraging.

Maybe he saw a specialist and they said that he could play through it and it would get better.

On the other hand maybe he saw a specialist and they said he needed surgery in the offseason and it’s one of those injuries that won’t get better.

We could use him either way because of his faceoffs and his defensive game. Surprising if it is his wrist that he could still be so good on draws though.

Or some people might see some issues with the team and also understand that it usually takes teams multiple times in the playoffs before they truly make some noise as a contender.

Contrary to many of the chuds here, that doesn't mean they aren't cheering for the team as much as anyone
