TRADE WINDS BLOWING!

image.png.14ba4ed5b065a3f7e86baef68b151e9d.png

The Montreal Canadiens found themselves in the middle of the action on Friday afternoon as weeks of trade dialogue with multiple clubs started to come to fruition.

The Canadiens having landed Noah Dobson earlier in October were in a position to utilize the organization's strength at defense in making some moves to upgrade the roster. Number one priority has been to find a 1A/1B netminder to help alleviate some of the workload for Sergei Bobrovsky. It took a lot of time and back and forth but the team was able to secure a deal bringing in Logan Thompson in net.

The Canadiens traded defenseman Michael Anderson and goaltender Anthony Stolarz to Tampa Bay in exchange for Logan Thompson, Jacob Bryson and a 2025 3rd round draft choice. Logan will step in right away and helps solidify the goaltending position. We feel we have a very strong tandem moving forward. Thanks to GM @Relyt Krets for a productive trade negotiation.

Having moved one of the team's productive defensemen in Michael Anderson to secure a deal for Logan Thompson, the team identified another blue liner who has to date produced a near identical stat line to Anderson, this comes in the form of Henri Jokiharju. The young former first rounder has started out this season with something to prove and finding a way to secure this player was ideal moving forward after the loss of Anderson.

Enter the Buffalo Sabres and @JohnnyEhGiver, who put in a smooth negotiation process from the onset. The Canadiens made the difficult decision to move highly touted defense prospect William Wallander, someone we feel who will be a top four producer in the next two to three years. That said the team was in a position to make this move as our goal is to upgrade the NHL roster. Henri Jokiharju joins a deep blue line filled with early twenty something first round selections with the likes of Noah Dobson, Braden Schneider, Bowen Byram, and Kaiden Guhle.

Montreal moving Wallander was as mentioned a difficult decision, but the team was able to recoup various assets in the deal. Coming to Montreal along with defenseman Henri Jokiharju is young forward Max Comtois. We believe Max may still find an NHL team before the December deadline, he could prove a valuable NHL roster player for us adding to our depth. Also involved in the deal was former 1st round selection defenseman Ty Smith. The young defenseman will report to Laval and continue to work with our coaches down there to really push the young man to up his compete level. He has all the tools of an offensive defenseman at the next level and we see him having a future in Montreal down the road.

Further adding to replenish our organizational depth the club also received 2023 2nd round pick, steady two way defenseman Maxim Strbak, he will also join his new club in Laval and continue fine tuning his professional game. We see Maxim as a player who will contribute in Montreal and keep the opposition honest. Adding in a draft pick in the 2024 draft, the Canadiens added to their draft capital in a 5th rounder belonging to the Bruins.

Corresponding with a pending trade:

1. Joel Armia has been placed on (waivers) for the purpose of assignment to the AHL Rochester Americans.
2. Nick Robertson has been called up the NHL/GFL.
3. Kevin Lankinen has been named the co-starter with Jake Allen.

 Buffalo News Conference:

- A trade has been made between the Blues and Sabres. Buffalo says goodbye to Akira Schmid. Coming back to the Sabres is NHLers: Nick Robertson, Kevin Lankinen, prospect Ty Voit and a second round selection in the 2024 draft. Schmid became available with the future goaltending depth in Buffalo showing an elated amount of potential and promise. Letting go of Schmid wasn’t easy but the Sabres we’re pleased with the return GM Mastermind had presented. There was a fair amount of interest around Schmid and though other teams presented healthy offers, we felt that the Blues offer helps work best towards Buffalo’s three year plan of building a team thats ready to seriously contend for the playoffs for when phenom  Matvei Michkov is ready to the join the franchise.

-Due to the trades and roster moves over the last few weeks, your Buffalo Sabres current roster make up will look like the following:

The Buffalo Sabres announced today Martin Fehervary was injured in last nights game and will be going on the IR.

-Corresponding with this IR placement Louie Belpedio will be placed on the NHL club pending his contract signing.

-CBS Sports-

Fehervary (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, per the NHL media site.

Fehervary was injured in the second period of Friday's 4-2 win over New Jersey. He will miss at least the next two contests, starting with Saturday's matchup with the Islanders, following his placement on the IR list. Fehervary has two assists, 17 shots on goal, 20 blocked shots and 29 hits in 12 outings this season. He could be replaced in the lineup Saturday by Alexander Alexeyev or recent call-up Dylan McIlrath.

CF is fine but id prefer a ling with something a little more concrete, just incase hes no longer on IR by the time I get to updates.. When I look at the injusy history on CF it just shows he was hurt and out 6 weeks, doesnt specify that he was indeed placed on IR.. Hes on IR so its no biggie this time. Just trying to prevent future headaches. Thanks

Status gets posted on CF whenever the team assigns IR or LTIR.  Just like call ups and assignments to minors by teams.

When they get activated, its my job to recall them.  My understanding is I cannot leave them on IR if not there in real life.  As above they report when assigned and recalled on an ongoing basis.
