Coconuts
We're in the home stretch, and there will be playoffs. Should be an interesting finish, the Art Ross race is as tight as it's been for years, plenty of runway left to sway voters. Playoffs are tight in each conference, with teams still jockeying to either cement a position or to improve upon their current position. Should be fun. Gurn
Arena deal fails to get done: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/other/collapse-of-nba-nhl-arena-deal-prompts-recriminations-allegations-of-impropriety-in-virginia/ar-BB1kTLMN?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=52e8dab54bd84a24a9a8dfd05e4a5263&ei=48 RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The majority owner of the Washington Wizards and Capitals, Ted Leonsis, told a crowd in December he had “goosebumps” at the thought of moving his NBA and NHL teams from Washington to Virginia, “if all goes as planned.” It did not. Leonsis' handshake deal with Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin to relocate the teams to a taxpayer-backed arena in Alexandria collapsed Wednesday, weeks after a bumpy slog of a defeat in the Virginia General Assembly. Leonsis, apparently not willing to wait for a second shot in Virginia, reemerged in Washington, which had offered his Monumental Sports & Entertainment a more than half-billion-dollar arena deal to stay. ---------------------------- mal

Good question, it's remarkable how provincial and state governments continue to subsidize billionaire's sports-related ventures. I get that on some level projects may drive revenue and that it's a nuanced matter, but it's ultimately the average Joe who's subsidizing new/upgraded sports complexes for billionaires.
Chon derry
@Gurn @Coconuts something about that capitals owner stinks. I mean more than the obvious. But having some level of govt. virtually bribing him to stay with a new arena? Does this owner get to choose where his teams play? I thought was to up to bettman his crooneys and the rest the owners?

I'm talking out of my ass, but I'm guessing that it's probably a case by case thing regarding ownership and the NHL brass It's not very often there's a legit chance that a team moves

It's not meaningless though, this is Colorado's game in hand on Dallas (who leads the central division), and they're three points back

Coconuts
Detroit with an empty netter and that'll do it, no late game heroics from Tampa Last couple eastern spots are still wide open, all of Washington, Philly, Detroit, and New York are in the mix Tampa's probably safe, but they're running out of runway to steal a divisional spot from Toronto West is less open, with eight games remaining St. Louis will be hard pressed to catch LA or Vegas, particularly if LA wins their game in hand tonight Edited April 2 by Coconuts
