hockeyfan-observer
I think the Canucks will rest some players including Hughes, JT and a couple of D as some have logged many minutes this campaign. Its crazy that they are still positioning for most of the teams heading into the last games of the season. Probably best to see what happens with Dallas game tomorrow to decide on the scenarios. Looking at the time of the Thursday games, the Kings game being the latest will probably have the most effect on who goes where -> so it looks like it is down to the wire. But for tonight..... Congratulations to the Canucks players / mgmt / coaches personnel for all their hard work this past year and the subsequent division title. Hope some of the players (and coaches) get a reset in the next couple of days (especially Huggy who looks a bit spent). Been a pleasure following them this year - do their best in the playoffs and see where this takes us. Truly the time of year to take it a game at a time. Rest up the All Stars? I dunno about that. Players wanna play. I get that rest and preventing possible injury be the sole purpose of doing such. If needs be, then so be it. I'm just so pumped seeing this squad play this season. And double pumped to see 'em perform in the playoffs. Frankly I don't care who we face in the 1st round. I just wanna get it going. Saturday can't come soon enough, man! Go Canucks Go!!!!!

Honkin Hronek
Not sure if anyone stuck around for the “Jersey off the back” celebration, but Hronek had a brace/wrap around his right elbow. Might explain why he hasn’t been leaning into slappers recently. Edited April 17 by Honkin Hronek 1 1 1

Popular Post JamesB
Great to see the Canucks clinch the Division tonight. How many people saw that coming at the beginning of season? Here are the things that stood out for me tonight. 1. The obvious headline is that Demko looked great. He was named first star and played a great game. The Canucks gave up more shots (40) than they wanted, but the work was probably good for Demmer. It feels great to have him back. Just hope he can stay healthy. 2. The Canucks started strong and were ahead 2-0 on the scoreboard and 12-5 on the shot clock after Hoggy scored about 14 minutes in and in never felt like they were in danger, especially after Joshua scored to put the Canucks up 3-0 early in the second period. 3. Calgary had some pushback and ended up ahead on the shot clock. But the pattern was representative of the entire season as the Canucks had more good chances. Calgary outshot Vancouver 40-31 but the Canucks had far more high danger chances (18-7). The Canucks had a solid win in "expected goals": 3.23 to 2.4. And that was despite Vancouver laying back and protecting the lead in the third while Calgary was pushing hard. Overall, the Canucks were a much better team tonight even apart from Demko. 4. It was good to see Lindholm and Mikheyev get on the board with assists tonight. Before that I was worried as Lindy has a great chance early on a pass in the slot from Garland and he basically just missed puck, just nudging it with the heel of stick. And Mik had a great chance in close on a set-up from Petey and could not score. Mik had an excellent two-way game overall and actually led the team in expected goal percentage. Both guys are high skill 200 ft players and I hope they can play with confidence heading into the playoffs. 5. In terms of the underlying stats, the best Canuck line was Petey, Mik, and Hoggy. When they were on the ice at 5-on-5 the scoring chances were 7-1 for the Canucks and the high danger chances were 4-0. That line was very good and could easily have had another goal or two. Petey had one assist and needs just one more point to reach 90. Tocchet is planning to continue with that line, which makes sense to me. All four lines played well and I like the line composition. (And Miller extended his point streak with a nice goal). 6. As for the D, Myers had a big night tonight with a goal and an assist, was +3, and had a good night in the underlying stats and did not take any penalties. But, in my view, Hughes was the defensive standout again. When he was on the ice at 5-on-5, the high danger chances were 12-2 in favor of the Canucks. He did not get on the scoreboard but the ice was completely tilted when he was on the ice. I remember seeing an article with various stats showing that Hughes generates a higher share of chances (relative to his teammates than any other D-man in the NHL. It will obviously be a huge injustice if he does not win the Norris. And I wonder if Dom Luszczysyn of the Athletic still thinks he is a "3B defenceman." 7. One interesting sequence I remember (maybe in the second period) when Hronek made a D-to-D pass at the offensive blue line that was intercepted. Most of the time that play yields a break-away the other way, but Hughes showed great anticipation and quickness and quickly broke up the play making it look like a routine play. Later that shift, Hughes made an excellent play showing great skating, hands, and quickness to take a puck off the goal line and prevent a goal. That sequence reinforced to me how much Hronek benefits from playing with Hughes. Hronek is good but his stats and the general perception of his play gets a big boost from playing with Hughes. 8. The Stanley Cup race is as wide-open as I have ever seen and I think the Canucks have as good a chance as anyone. Herberts Vasiljevs
I cannot believe how healthy this team is going into the playoffs. My biggest fear going into tonight was that Pospisil was gonna do something stupid...

FINAL… This team has it as much, if not more than, the 2011 team. This team reminds me of ‘94 but with more… This team does have a similar vibe as the 90's team. Young players maturing, nice compliment of vets etc. What a great time to be a fan. 2 6
Ghostsof1915
Bottom line there's a limit to what players we can rest. There's still a certain number of call ups until the playoffs correct? There should be no reason however not to put in Juulsen. And rest either Cole or Myers And we're still restricted by the salary cap until the playoffs start. So there's no "rest everybody"....

The only penalty there was 2 for embellishment and it wasn’t even close. Ya, that was a cross check by Hoglander for sure. A 2 minute penalty every time even if they reviewed it for an hour. They can’t add a penalty on another player they didn’t call on a review. They can only review the major that was called on the ice. They made the correct alteration on the review, and just missed the embellishment on the ice.

I'm sure unless a player needs a full week for something to heal up, that they will want to play the final road game too. Juulsen for sure, Demko if there is any soreness, QHs and EP if they've got anything going on, because you know they will be targeted and coming in to the playoffs as close to 100% is important.

There isn’t a cap floor on who you put on the ice for a given game. No one would be put on LTIR and would still count against the cap. They could use any remaining emergency call ups to bring in a couple of warm bodies if they wanted to rest a few of their starters. 1

Yes looking into it can't find anything saying a team needs to ice the cap floor. A few times teams have iced well under the cap, injury related. Still don't think they need to risk the remaining players, by resting half the roster. Edit: Anyone who's been playing with something, likely will get the day off. I'm sure WNP will do the same. If they don't go with Demko, then consider playing Silvos, and giving EP and QHs the night off, Hronek too. Juulsen im sure will get a game in.
