If we play Oilers next round I think it will be an amazing series, the wide open ice would favor us... it would favor mcdavid too. I hate these trap styles, it's bad for hockey. Our big blueliners would be able to intimidate McDiver. Once you play him physically, he starts concentrating on flopping and throwing tantrums instead of hockey.

Believe In Blue
I’ve seen videos of the Viewing party at Roger’s for today’s game, and wow we were louder than Preds fans on their own home ice! Loving the atmosphere in BC. I live on Van Isle so I’ll have to stick to watching in TV. But I’ve seen so many Canucks flags and jerseys everywhere. God, we needed this! 1

I’d rather keep Lindholm than Hronek so we can have 3 great lines next season. We can go hard after Tanev or Matt Roy to replace Hronek and play with Hughes next season and then trade Hronek for picks/prospects… I agree I think we are a better team with Lindholm, Myers and Zadarov over keeping Hronek. Also by trading Hronek we would also bring assets back 2 1

Guntrix
Good game defensively and hats off to DeSmith. I know the Preds play a trap game but we need to find a way to shoot more. Kind of like how Miller was shooting from everywhere. Saros seems very beatable. 1

Guess which team gets the calls after that? So you're exactly correct - just shut up unless it's an absolutely egregious miss. Jeer the other goalie all the time. Bronx cheer the easy saves. Popular Post JamesB
We can breathe again. Great to get the win, but we probably shouldn't look too closely at the details. Here are some comments anyway. 1. DeSmith was great. Somehow he was not named as one of the three stars, but he had a great performance. Admittedly, it was not one of those "controlled" performances, but he was fighting for every puck. His biggest weakness is probably rebound control and the D helped him out a lot tonight, getting to rebounds first and clearing pucks out of danger. 2. Shot blocks. The Canucks turned the tables on Nashville tonight with a lot of shot blocks (28) including a big block by Teddy Blueger in the last minute or so to preserve the win. Last game, the Canucks dominated in Corsi (shot attempts) and other metrics but could not get a bounce. Tonight Nashville dominated in Corsi (71 - 33) and they must feel like they could not get a bounce. 3. Special teams. Both Canuck goals came on the PP and the PK was excellent, killing off 5 penalties including a brief 5-on-3 situation. So the special teams were the key to this game. 5. At 5-on-5 the Canucks played a tough defensively-oriented game. The best line was the Miller line (with Boeser and Suter). They were only line with a positive Corsi and the only line with a positive scoring chance differential. And that was despite taking over the shutdown role against O'Reilly after the Lindholm line struggled. Lindholm did not have a good game. His on-ice Corsi at 5-on-5 was 21-3 against, shots were 12-0 against, and scoring chances were 10-2 against. And he was 8 and 17 in the faceoff circle. 6. Good defensive structure. Despite the big Corsi differential, the Canucks played good defence at 5-on-5. A lot of the Corsi differential was due to the power play. The Canucks did not give up many even strength high danger chances. At 5-on-5 the Preds had only 5 high danger chances. 7. Loved Zadorov's game. The Preds started the game by going after Hughes. But they cooled down after Z. hammered Josi with a big hit. And getting 2 PP goals did not hurt. The Preds obviously had a strategy of going after Hughes and I expect that to continue but scoring on the PP and letting them know that Josi can also be targeted is likely to keep them from taking too many liberties. The entire D played a good game. 8. The Canucks are unlikely to win another game with the ice titled this much against them. A big part of it was penalties. The Canucks need to cut down on taking penalties. And the Canucks need to generate more offence at 5-on-5. Defending a lead in the playoffs with tight defence is good, but they will need some 5-on-5 goals. Miller and Boeser were good, but the team needs more offence from the rest of the forwards. Petey was better tonight and set up Hoggy and Mik for what should have been good chances but both those guys are squeezing the stick too hard and can't get anything to the net. 9. Nashville must be frustrated, which is good. And I am feeling much better about DeSmith. The Canucks need to come out with a good effort in the next game and take a commanding lead in the series. I think the chances are pretty good. Edited April 27 by JamesB 4 2
