Popular Post JamesB
Wow! Not sure I have ever seen a Canuck comeback like that. The game started well with a really nice goal from Boeser on a pass from Miller but it was downhill from there until the last 5 minutes of regulation. I may need some self-medication to settle down after that comeback. Here are my comments. 1. The Boeser hat trick has to be the headline. Huge clutch plays by Boeser showing his skill around the net and his shot. But Miller was also great on those plays. Those two guys are having a great series (after a great regular season). 2. Silovs is the second headline. It is not like he stole the game, but he played very well. If DeSmith is healthy he will play the next game, and he deserves it, but Silovs has better rebound control and looks more stable and more in control around the net. And Silovs is a guy who can get hot. I would be happy with either DeSmith or Silovs in net. (Of course I would be even happier with Demmer, but it is longshot that he will play again this season.) 3. Although it looked like the Canuck offence was sputtering for most of the game and Nashville was headed to a comfortable win, the game was actually pretty close in the underlying stats. Nashville outshot the Canucks 30-20 but Natural Stat Trick had scoring chances at 20-20 and high danger chances at 8-5 for the Canucks. As always, the Canuck did not give up many high quality chances. The Preds got a goal off a puck hitting a skate after Hronek fell down and got a goal on an odd-man rush against the run of the play. 4. Hughes did not get a point tonight but he played a very good game. He was targeted by the Pred all night and took a lot of punishment and he was almost certainly not 100% physically. But he made a huge play on the tying goal, "ankle-breaking" Nyquist and starting the play that led to the goal. As Elliot Friedman said, that play shows why Hughes deserves the Norris trophy. He did not hear footsteps and bail despite all the physical abuse he has been taking. And, as always, he led the team in on-ice scoring chance differential. 5. Lindholm scored the winning goal and had a great primary assist on Boeser's second goal. He shared shutdown against O'Reilly with Miller and played well. He was 15-5 on the faceoff circle. Still don't love the trade but without Lindholm the Canucks probably don't win tonight's game. Maybe I will love the trade before the playoffs are over. 6. Petey continues to take a lot of abuse on CFF and on the ice, but he was good tonight. The high-danger chances were 5-1 with him on the ice. Of course the "panel" and a lot of people on CFF are saying he should shoot more. He has a very hard shot and an accurate shot. If guys want to block it, let them pay the price. It probably is true that he should shoot more and stop "overthinking" the game. But he has a lot of offensive creativity and things are pretty close to clicking for him. 7. There were a lot of things I did not like about today's game and I was focusing on them until the comeback started. The early start time is always a problem for west coast teams and maybe that is part of it. Did not love Hronek's game. In addition to being at fault for the third Nashville goal for falling down, he had some other questionable plays. And Hogs and Mik continue to underperform. And the Canucks have to get more shots on net. 8. Taking a 3-1 lead back to Vancouver is huge. The Nashville players must be feeling pretty negative right now. Let's close it out on Tuesday 3

Pure961089
The Preds gave the Canucks their best punches and I don't think they have another gear. The Canucks still haven't brought their best. Maybe thIs game injects some passion into Petey's game. Could be a turning point in the playoffs.

It would be great to see him get rewarded more and I think he needs to because they'll have to find a way to trade him in the off-season otherwise. I thought Hogs would be built for this but I'm wondering if he's a bit banged up right now......or lost. Hopefully they pick up a win on Tuesday. There's some guys that need some rest and some practice time would be good. 1
