Thats an old narrative.

Skinner has been quite good and they’re playing a much tighter system.

Not likely gonna win the special teams, so 5 on 5 is where we need to thrive.

Yeah but both their goalies are notorious for choking too so.. either of their recent play can go the other way after on bad period. It's a narrative but for a reason.

It didn't look much different when we beat them in April.

The Oilers had a far better record... and what counts is the playoffs.

Oilers shut down the Kings 4-1 and did it in a very efficient manner.

Anyone who thinks they will be a pushover is deluding themselves.

First quarter of this season I believe at one point Edmonton was the 2nd worst team in the league points wise. However this same season they tied the record for most consecutive wins in regular season NHL history... Take that shit and try to make sense of it.

If we match there speed, try to get at least 1 out of 10 attempts to successfully check McDavid, expose there lackluster 3rd and 4th lines, mediocre defense and goal tending, STAY OUT OF THE PENALTY BOX, we got this. 6 games bank it.

Oilers are a good scoring team which has tightened their checking. Their powerplay is strong. They are not physical and have untested goalkeeping.

We are underdogs. We need to fix our offence and powerplay but the oilers don't have any bruisers and so we may feel a whole lot better with time and space to set up. A different challenge but i feel like we're going to enjoy playing offence again which will help.

Lindholm's crosscheck was a textbook call imo. Don't want stupid penalties, don't make stupid plays.

Thought the refs were pretty fair throughout the series.

How many "textbook" calls were ignored by the striped mafia when the Preds commited them?  Zero penalties called vs the Preds is a Joke.

Stay out of the box and they've got a good shot I think

Something everyone should remember about the Oilers:

For those who thought the Preds were dirty in their runs at Hughes...  the Oilers will be far worse.

Kane will put on his headhunting hat and he will go after Hughes full dirty, late hits are guaranteed.  So will Corey Perry.  And all of the other Oiler lines will go at him too... Foegele, Hyman, Janmark are all fast and they will hit Hughes late too.

They will need to be taught a lesson right away, a Canuck big D-man should be paired with Hughes for the first game and instantly someone takes a run at Hughes he should receive a beat down.

Nah just a reality check.

The Canucks need to reach another level to top the Oilers. They’re playing really well right now and they’re not some Swiss cheese team that people are claiming.

Good thing is we know the Canucks have another level in them.

Wrong on both counts.

Skinner is playing really well and so are the D on the team...  look at the results... as the series went on, the Oilers D got better and better.

The Oilers are not the same team they were two or three years ago, they have a much more experienced and capable defense... and I am not talking about Darnell Nurse.

Vincent DeHarnais is a force for them now...  6'7" and 226 lbs... and Evan Bouchard has improved his defensive play considerably.

And of course they have McJesus and Draisaitl... whether you like them or not, they are the #1 and #3 best offensive players in the league who can both do it on their own.

The Oilers play much better with McDavid on the roster... don't assume because the Canucks went 4-0 regular season they will do the same in the playoffs.

Canucks went 4-0 vs the Preds and barely scraped out a win in round 1.

Will take a lot better coaching from Tocchet to deal with the Oiler's offensive threats and generate more shots from the Canucks top lines.  If Tocchet leaves Pettersson with Hoglander and Mikheyev, and Suter on Miller's line, then we will continue to see very little production.

You're right the Oilers are a very good team and it will be a very hard series.

I think the canucks can get an advantage if they win game 1 though. Sports is just as much mental as it is physical/skill. If the canucks take game 1 we might very well get in the heads of the Oilers.

The Oilers were held to 13 shots in one of the games vs the Kings. Who the hell said the Oilers were a pushover ? You are saying the Canucks will be a pushover

Quote where I said the Canucks would be a pushover... I never said that.

What I said was that posters like you who say the Oilers will be easy are deluding themselves.

They still haven't brought in actual NHL quality defencemen. Ekholm is the only one who belongs in this league.

You guys couldn't be more wrong - at least on paper.  You guys are still stuck in November, when Woodcroft's Oilers were getting pummeled defensively.

The Oilers under Kris Knoblauch have completely transformed their defensive structure, with all players (including struggling/overpaid guys) fully buying in.  They won a shit ton of games during the second half because they played excellent, structured, defensive hockey.

You can't have it both ways and say Oilers suck defensively, when Skinner put up the best numbers of his career.  Either he had a great season, or the Oilers don't give up high quality chances, or a bit of both.  Edmonton is our enemy.  Respect the enemy.

I'm sorry did their old #1 not just get recalled from the A? Both their starters are fringe NHL. And their D is as fragile as our was in 2015, potential yes but can't keep it together for extended periods. LA doesn't have the offense we do, and Nashville was the hottest team in the NHL and we just beat them and they play hard defensive like LA, basically showing we can play that style, yet we were almost all season long top of the league for, high danger chances, shot, goal per 60 etc... we are one of the best teams this year stats wise, eye test wise, and year end outcome wise. Stop selling the team short. Respect them sure, but we beat them in a 7 game series on paper and in reality. And we will beAt them.
