Yes I do. Have you ever played competitive hockey?

We were coached in many big games to completely lay off the fringe stuff and keep it 100% clean so we didn't lose from an iffy call. This is also a big talking point every year across the NHL playoffs from coaches, pundits, players, newscasters, and announcers alike. It kind of sucks like you stated but it's a sacrifice you make against teams that will make you pay otherwise. It's something you do in order to win the game.

The nature of embellishment is that you're doing something kind of illegal in the first place and the other player makes it look worse than it was. You can engage all you want, with clean, legal hits and defence, just don't do anything outside the rulebook that can be called or embellished. No one is saying to lay back or not be physical. There is a lot of subtle differences you're missing here and you're misunderstanding the argument itself.

You may call it stupid but I can 100% guarantee Tocchet doesn't and he's relaying that message to the team clearly and often. The series kind of depends on it.

What's with people on here trying to claim their superiority of hockey knowledge based on playing the game at an amateur albeit organized level?

Anyways, I digress.  Embellishment doesn't necessarily mean you're doing anything illegal in the first place.  A clear example is a stick that gets lifted and hits a guy's chest and now the player throws his head back like he got hit in the head.  So what's said player to do? Not check a player stick to stick in fear that his stick will get lifted to chest level and thereby an embellishment by the player throwing his head back?

Another example, defending the front of the net in the crease area.  Boxing out generally requires preventing a player from standing in the crease.  How exactly do you push a guy out of the crease without touching him? In which case, said player embellishes and goes down like a sack of bricks.  Again, what do you do? Let them crowd the crease and get first dibs on rebounds?

Brutal tactic if we play worried about embellishments.  Like I said, we would get steam rolled by EDM if we approached the game that way.

Did Tochett say we'd be "killed on the PP"?   Let's not be so dramatic.   Both teams will play physical.   Let's just wait and see.   They allowed both teams to "play" in the first round.

Not being dramatic just realistic.  The Oilers have a 49% PP. He doesn't need to say it, we all know it.

49% pp against a team that mailed it in last round.  Regular season they were not nearly that good and as much as people say stats don’t matter from the regular season it matters way more than outliers against the same team that they exposed the exact same way during the season

As an old timer, the defense is hard to play against and tough and big...... I am very impressed by Zadorov and his swagger...it does make a difference...you can see it and adding a few goals ...wow...once that guy and sometimes Myers starts a counter play out of the defensive zone they are almost impossible to stop with the wingspan they have that can put distance between them and an opponent.

Not overconfident. We have a good team that plays hard and for each other.  That with a few lucky bounces is a winning formula.

I'll take Cuthbert and Simpson/Debrusk all day long! Was dreading having to hear Singh shrill ever 2 minutes.

To be right honest, I actually like Debrusk. Though he is a jug head, he knows when to speak and when to shut up, and his voice monotone

I like DeBrusk too, but cannot stand that Smarmy Simp-suck; seriously, have to mute that mofo; thinks he knows everything and does not, and will not shut up and talks right through the puck drop and the play is on.  I pray for the 16 Ton Monte Python Demo Block to smash him to smithereens!

The series could be the Canucks/Oilers 3rd game when we won 6-2. The Oilers came out of the gate fires blazing.

Outshot 21-8 in the 1st.  The Canucks weathered the storm and Quinn Hughes was the best player on the ice.

Simpsons are no good, whether it’s Craig, Homer or OJ.

Chris Cuthbert doing play by play for Canucks Oilers series.  He's pretty good. Good choice.

But Craig Simpson doing colour?  The guy is an ex Oiler. WTF?

So you'd rather have Singh doing the play by play?

i know im gonna catch heat for this post and i dont care, Oilers are better than the predators by a mile, this will be a very tough match up.

ask yourself how often do we win the pucks when its dumped in? this is why we HAD to have hughes and our D join the rushes vs nashville.

we are one of the slowest teams in the league... only garland and miller can attack with any resemblance of speed... i would say mikeyhev too but he is a enigma, whenever he touches the puck its guaranteed to hit the goalie right in the crest.

im pretty sure we lose in 6

Good grief.   One of the slowest teams in the league? Lost me there.   We have  a mobile and big defense.   NSH would have taken EDM to six and half of them would be limping right now.   We won't have the same issues against EDM.   As long as we don't end up in the box a lot.

I think this series will go minimum 6 likely 7.. really could go either way.. regular season Colorado shown us don’t mean shit. It depends on if silov continue channeling his inner bubble Demko and we stay out of the box. 5v5 we can compete all day with oilers.. special team? Powerplay is like a momentum killer for us the last 3 months don’t see that changing and oilers just lit up the #2 pk. If we get mediocre skinner we can prolly win this in 6.. if we get good skinner then we might lose in 7. Hopefully RT learns to make adjustment in games to slow mcdavid down. So far in the playoff he shown he doesn’t know or refuses to make adjustments. Looking at the practice lineups we are running with the same lineup that generated 2 goals in the last 2 games and hardly any shots on goal the entire series. I also wish the fans would stop chanting referee sucks at home.. how much more likely do you think a ref will call a Mickey Mouse call on us if we are constantly harassing them.

When I bite into a York Peppermint Pattie, I get the cool sensation of flying down the ice at Rogers Arena in a Canucks uniform during Game 1 at 120 miles an hour, narrowly avoiding Oilers hits, spinning, jumping over the backs of Oilers defensemen toward the net in a way that would make the Duke boys very, very jealous!

Not sustainable.   Plus they need to get them to score.   This isn't the first round anymore.   And if the refs call it like the first round against NSH, we shouldn't be that worried.    Give me a 5 x 5 team every single day over a PP specialist team.    That's what we have.   Don't know why so many Canuck fans are sucking the EDM dong, the regular season is over.   They didn't have much of a challenge.   And LA played into their lap.    We are not LA.

After they kick the crap out of the coilers the first 2 games in Van, we switch to these..

Those jerseys at home would look so much better with the white towels flying around!
