It was a good run for the team. Losing our #1 and #2 goalie for most of the playoffs and losing Boeser. They could have played better tonight but at the end of the day still proud of them.

Also....it was my fault...I shouldn't have worn the Blue home orca jersey that I haven't worn since 2011 final game 7....should have stuck with my black skate...

Proud of the boys and there season/post, got criticism but another night, this game was disappointing had a bit of hope in the 3rd but over all can't complain, learning curve, just hope we can re-sign the players that really picked it up n surprised me, regardless got faith in JR/PA, but our power play is our knife in the back. Ain't even that upset tonight, big bummer but wasn't expecting the Cup, good series. Missed playoffs. GCG!:canucks:

Bruises and aches are the minimum... you get hit in the wrong spot or you're not braced, you get a serious injury... you can tear a muscle easily with those kinds of impacts... you can tear ligaments, you can even break bones.

You can also get a penalty or go out of position. Plus the idea is you don't want to actually injure other players because they can hurt you back just as easily with a cheap slash on the wrist or the groin. They are fun for us but I'm like 98% certain coaches would rather you just focus on making more skillful and sound hockey plays than just going around trying to make big hits on people, we all saw what happened when players try to force hits.

Sorry to see the season end. The Canucks did better this season than anyone predicted or expected but losing this series hurts.

1. The Canucks did pretty well on the injury front this season but karma was against them in the playoffs as their Vezina-short-listed goalie was injured in the first game and missed the rest of the playoffs and their top goal scorer could not play the 7th game of round 2. Would having Demmer and Boeser in the line-up today have made the difference? Maybe. The Canucks certainly could have used their best shooter tonight.

2. The early shot totals suggest that the Oilers were dominating the game. The Oilers did outplay the Canucks early, which is a problem. But the shot totals are partially explained by strategy. The Oilers were throwing everything they could at Silovs while the Canucks were following Tocchet's strategy of "not wasting shots" and going for high danger chances. But the Canucks could not finish their high danger chances.

3. Probably the best chance for either team in the first was when Miller put Mik in all alone on Skinner and Mik, as usual, fumbled the puck. Cannot blame that on his injury. It was was the "hands of stone" problem that he has always had. Garland had two excellent chances but shot wide on both, just missing the corner both times. Petey and Miller both passed up good shot opportunities to go for cross-seam backdoor chances that did not work out. None of those chances counted as shots on goal and there were lots of other situations where the Canucks had a good chance but failed to record a shot on goal.  To make the point, the Canucks won the all-strength Corsi battle 61-46 but lost on the shot clock 17-29.

4. The Canucks PP was a big disappointment. They seem to be taking the "don't shoot" strategy too far.  For the playoffs as a whole they had 34.1 shots per 60 minutes on the PP. Edmonton had 82.2 shots per 60. That difference is crazy. I think the Canucks had 14 PPs in a row without scoring over the last few games.

5. The Canucks made a big push in the 3rd. The all-strength Corsi was 22-4 for the Canucks and the scoring chances were 11-1. Even the actual shots were 5-2 for the Canucks. So they made a big effort in the third period and scored two goals to make it close. Petey did not get an assist on Garland's goal but he deserved one as his check on McLeod is what allowed the puck to come free to Garland, who made a nice shot. Hronek finally decided get a shot on goal and scored. It was a nice play but that is the kind of shot the Canucks should have been taking earlier against Skinner.

6. Both the Lindholm-Joshua-Garland line and Petey and Miller with either Mik or PDG had very good underlying numbers and played well. Miller and Petey led the team in expected goal differential and both played well. I have to mention that Joshua was credited with 9 hits and Lindy was second with 5. Both those guys did everything they could.

7. As for the D, Hughes led in ice-time (as usual) with over 28 minutes. The ice was not tilted as strongly as it usually is when he is on the ice, but he still had a good game. He left everything out there. I don't think we could ask for much more. Zad also had a good game.

8. So what went wrong? I think the key factors are i) slow start, ii) ineffective PP, iii) taking the high-possession-low shot strategy too far, especially on the PP, and iv) the Canucks just missed on too many high quality chances (maybe due to lack of playoff experience). Losing Boeser was obviously a big loss as he is not really replaceable. And, while Silovs made some big saves and played well, not having Demmer in the net is a negative. Also, as Miller said, in the end the Canucks were just one bounce away.

The Canucks had a very good season and a good playoff. Now we can think about whether it is possible to actually improve the team for next year.

Mostly agree but cannot fault our goaltending tonight at all. Also, the slow starts are not really the cause of failure but rather a symptom. I would like to know the cause of these habitual slow starts and then we are really getting at the cause of failure. To me it is a mystery how this became a pattern.

Something that I think management needs to do:

Bring in a Powerplay specialist/Offensive specialist.

The team is not getting the results it needs from the PP and offensively 5 on 5 it is too predictable.

Too much of the Green offensive style is still a part of the way the forwards play.

They need a lot of work on how to use the ice, how to criss cross to throw off defenders, how to use the trailing player and how to use the drop pass.

Every team in the league uses these systems but I rarely see them from the Canucks... too much bread and butter, up and down the wing... side to side passing.

What is weird is using the trailing player who builds up great speed from our own end and then… dumps it in at the blueline!

Interesting contrast in styles tonight. Time after time:

them - controlled entry off the rush, crisp passes, dangerous shot on net,

us - dump and chase, Oilers retrieve and flip it out, no shot.

Frustrating game to watch.

And Petey was a complete no show…and Quinn was clearly playing hurt

3 members of our core were less than themselves one wasn’t available…

Give us a healthy team and we destroy Edmonton in five - six games no problem…

Ugh... cmon Z gotta move there

It’s on Miller to see that the shot lane was blocked he should’ve ended somewhere else I think Skinner would’ve got that anyways

Got to tip my cap to the Oilers, they came out guns a-blazing when their backs were against the walls.

Hate to say it, but the better team won.

I think injuries got to us…

We’re clearly the better team and we’re healthy we swept the season series…

I honestly think we had injuries and that’s what killed us

Skinner sucks I don't think he gets that.

Z looks at him ahead of time, gotta be more dialed in there, make an effort to screen & move not just stand still the whole time. It should be about the team winning.

He looked defeated on that play.

I never had any. All of their whining, diving, and cheap shots this series just reiterated why not one single team should take them seriously (they won't get away with that against Dallas). It took them fourteen years to build something that resembles an NHL team after being spoonfed first overall picks for four of those years.

If Skinner didn’t completely shit the bed for two games, this series would have been over sooner rather than later.

You couldn’t ask Silvos to do a better job than what he was asked to. Came in and did a stupendous job filling in for Demko.

You might not want to admit it, but the Oilers pretty much outplayed us, for most of the series.
