Hopefully when Tom Wallinder is ready. That would be a good jolt of energy into the roster.

Willander, but yes. He's probably gonna have to save our blueline. Especially if for whatever reason Hronek is greedy.

"Too soft"

Quinn took a good gash in the face courtesy of a high stick. Didn't whine.

Petey took a good high stick in the face. Didn't whine.

But the tough guy(s) here .... would probably check out at that point. Maybe pass out.

petey did everything he could for us in the last couple games

its not his fault mikheyev couldnt finish

im sure management took note and will put some talent on his wing

Theres so many assumptions here

i think he impacts the game the exact amount a star player would if you put him between mikheyev and lafferty

people had the same things to say about miller and his attitude last season. miller is such a sore loser. and thats good. petey is a sore loser too, hes just more surly than miller who is more explosive.

peteys downturn coincided EXACTLY when kuzmenko was traded away, and not replaced with a decent finisher.

petey is accomplishing far more than the twins did at his age. theres no way we should all be losing our minds at petey for putting up a 35 goal season.

You can’t point to Kuz for EP downturn.  Kuz wasn’t putting up points.  Unless you mean that Kuz created space for EP to do his magic??

Mika was not a top 6 winger neither... And Hogs is just finding his legs...

This is a big question... you are spot on, his value has never been higher, and yet it is very high to Canucks as well...

It's a big call, as both he and Mika would open up $5M each, and that could Petey the winger he should have, and keep some of the bigger players.... however,  he has been the driving force in our line up, so what to do...

$5M sitting on the 3rd line in a single player is a lot, so....

Lots of moving parts this offseason. We have competent management who are proven Cup winners. They know what we need. Opening up 10 million could certainly provide the winger to pair with Petey.

if Guentzel was a sure thing to come here, what would you give up to move Mik?

we need to find at least 1 from within the system

we wont be able to afford 2 being paid full price

hopefully someone surprises at training camp

i still think bains could be the guy. he has phenomenal hands, has taken remarkable steps forward each year, and isnt a liability defensively.

Even if Bains could develop into a great 3rd line guy that would be a bonus; allow Garland to play up with a huge drop off on bottom 6. Ditto Podz.

Isn’t Mik’s knee bothering him? Maybe he’s on LTIR until next playoffs start? Might get to allocate his cap to a guy like Guentzel.

The windows they were talking about, is how many years they have with their current cores before age or contracts will force a re-tool or a rebuild.   Also didn't get into who had the best quality window, was ranked in how many years they had left, and if they didn't consider it a window (chance for a cup) they didn't get a window.    Another way to look at it, is how many years do they have left in their peak cycle with the current core.   Ours thankfully, is just getting started.   EPs contract is long enough, where he quite possibly will be part of 3 different cores from rookie season, to final year.   Horvat, Miller, ?.

For us it's Demko's and QHs current deals, and maybe JT Miller (age).    They made it 4 playoffs (one down) even though Brock was in there and due for a raise,  OEL etc.  Once QHs gets to free agency, we will either resign him to a 14-16% cap deal (depends on how things go), or have to consider trading, hence a re-tool either by sacrificing something else to keep him (Demko maybe too), or trading to fill other needs in the future.

It was the second highest of any NHL team.    A lot of the best teams now, only have 1 postseason left before they are where we will be when QHs and Demko are up.   Plus what's left for them this year (EDM).

Dallas was the only team with no limit.  Given their quantity of young stars, and that they're long in the tooth stars, can easily be replaced with equal or better players using free agency, and add more support.    It's a compliment to be second on the list.

The only thing they said was EPs new deal is going to put some constraints on how good our current window is.    We've got Miller on a sweetheart deal,  Brock too, Demko, QHs and the rest is more than palatable or not going to cost the farm to move.   And we as a team, have one key guy who's just started his 30's ... we are going to be even better as a group going forward if Allvin can keep up the good work.   This playoffs, that's such a valuable experience for them.

Once the legacy deals start coming out, windows shrink (sometimes a lot), without re-tooling.    It's possible we could have a window for the duration of EPs next deal, and for sure that will depend on how good Lekkermaki and D-Petey, Willander etc are.

We've got some great support players.   And some "passengers".    The core, hard not to like it.    EP needs his partner in crime.    And sure he gets what it's going to take next time out.    Wish Forsberg was his uncle.   Or buddy.   He played a bit like him last night as far as willingness goes for sure.

Lindholm or Guentzal?   That is going to be a tough choice.

Yes agree, for some of the players it will be a max of 3-4 years, but I think, if (and as always that is a big ask) Tom and Jonathan full fills their potential we will cover the loss of expensive contracts...

Some wheeling and dealing will also need to be done, as we need players/prospects back before we run down contracts for players we don't see coming back... hopefully...

They found Joshua, and with a little bit of luck they can find another 1 or 2 like him... We have some prospects in Sasson and Ray, Karlsson and Aman as well, and hope fully a couple of them can be bottom 6 players... but we need size with decent speed like Joshua...

And a management that has turned this franchise around in less that 2 years... They are not scarred of pulling the trigger, so whatever they think is necessary they'll get done... Have massive amount of faith in this management team...

Podzilla has a taste now and will be a regular in our lineup next season.

I accept JR and Allvin have egos but it’s like they leave them at the door when they show up to work. They will move on from mistakes and move players out, they brought in, if that’s what is best for the club. Plus they encourage their scouts and others in management to voice their opinions. So much better than the previous guy in charge.

Ya you cant! Theres more than enough talent on that pp to get it done. All of them can be blamed!

Disingenuous lol

Cant say mik dragged pete down on the pp.

No, but you can say that ridiculously over-used back pass (every friking time), most certainly

screwed up the PP.  The coaching team must fix the horrible PP next season.  Quicker puck

distribution and lightening speed across the blue line.  Forward is much better than backward!

They definitely brought in a lot of people to the management team, so all angles could/should be covered...

Most important part now, is to figure out, which is the best forward to improve the team...

That will be the big debate these coming months...

I'm very interested to hear what Hronek's ailment was. He wasn't the same since the allstar break; felt like two completely different players. I would re-sign him assuming the magic number is somewhere in the low-medium 7 mil range.

It happened to quite a few players...

Hope nobody votes our players in to next years ASG... totally screwed up the season afterwards.

Dallas is just as capable, maybe more, of shutting down McDonkey like we did. They also have the winger depth to overcome what we just about did.

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Dallas sweep them.

Dallas has a very well balanced forward group with strong D and goaltending

oilers will have trouble out scoring them or out defending them

ill supply the brooms

Interesting take from a friend this morning  ......  Petey's last-off-the-ice looking around at the Arena and the crowd had all the hallmarks of a player relishing the moment knowing he's played his last game as a Canuck.

I replayed that sequence and now get the same vibes. 😧

I watched that a few times last night as it seemed a little "different". I did have the same thought as your friend, but I ended up with the thought that he was surprised by the response, and he wanted to take it in because he wants to experience it again - I think it will drive him

I think the priorities should be re-signing three of Zadorov/Hronek/Lindholm/Joshua, finding one or two top six wingers and adding some size and speed to the bottom six. If Raty is ready for third line minutes he could easily replace Blueger being a younger and cheaper option.
