Canucks expected to make strong push to keep Lindholm

The Vancouver Canucks are expected to make a strong push to keep pending unrestricted free agent forward Elias Lindholm, TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reported Friday in The Athletic.

However, LeBrun writes he suspects Lindholm's price will be too high for him to resist hitting the open market. LeBrun adds Lindholm is expected to receive significant interest given the scarcity in the centre market and his skill set.

The Canucks acquired Lindholm from the Calgary Flames on Jan. 31 in exchange for a first-round pick in 2024, a conditional fourth-round pick in 2024 and three players. The 29-year-old had six goals and six assists in 26 regular-season games with the Canucks but stepped up his game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring five goals and adding five assists in 13 games before the Canucks fell to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the second round.

Lindholm is one of many decisions facing general manager Patrik Allvin this off-season. Other pending UFAs on the Canucks include Nikita Zadorov, Dakota Joshua, Tyler Myers, Teddy Blueger, Sam Lafferty and Ian Cole. Filip Hronek and Arturs Silovs are also restricted free agents.

A native of Boden, Sweden, Lindholm is a veteran of 11 NHL seasons, spending his first five with the Carolina Hurricanes prior to being traded to Calgary in June of 2018. Lindholm then signed a six-year extension with the Flames after arriving that summer and played his next six seasons there before the trade to Vancouver earlier this year.

He has 218 goals and 339 assists for 557 career points in 818 career regular-season games.

Not surprised that they're trying to make a strong push, whether they can actually sign him is a different story.

Canucks have some significant financial advantages too... they can offer him 8 yrs everyone other team can only offer 7

does Lindy turn down 48 million from ducks (6 x8)

other teams would have to offer >7x7

650 guys made a great point today... young RD is a premium asset, more so than same age winger, so CAR would have to add...1st 2024 and we send them limo and Jett woo

You are full of crazy ideas. Necas doesn’t sign for 5.75. 4.25 is huge overpayment for Taney. Klimovich is not getting traded. Lindy for 6.5 is a wet dream.

Do you think Lindholm needs 7m+ to stay in Vancouver?

I might have thought 8 x 6.875m ( 55m ) would have been enticing but......

And agreed on Tanev. I just don't see him in Vancouver.

Necas wouldn't sign for less than he is currently earning either so.

Necas is a 25 year old guy who scored 81 points two years ago.  His number is likely going to start with an 8

Because he's much younger, provides offense and extends their window

Dont resign Pesce 5.5mil for free but will trade their top value asset Necas for Hronek to sign him for 7mil+.

Right.

I actually think most team would prefer to have Pesce over Hronek on their team.

Depends what your team is lacking.  If you have more defensive dmen on your team, you probably won't some offense from the back end.  If you want to focus on defending you probably value defensive dman.  It all depends on what your team needs

No thanks, we didn't let Horvat go for signing Lindholm around 1M apart.

This is exactly what I was thinking, keeping Lindholm to play 3C is dumb. We cant afford to pay that position that much. It would have made more sense to keep Bo at that point and have Petey still playing Millers wing. And have kept our 1st. If that was the long term plan. I can't see them going back to almost the same situation a season and half later. Lol. I do love Lindholm though smartest player on the team next the Hughes! Solid plays both ends of the ice. Maybe if they don't see Petey as a Center or just a part time center and he plays with Lindy but it didn't seem that was tochs plan at all.

They need this guy desperately! We literally have no right shot centres in the system at all. Zero. Hopefully a 7 year deal, then we have Miller, Lindy, n Petey down the middle for 6 - 8 years.

Great player but for me I think more than 6.5 AAV will be too much. Love what he brings but his offence is too inconsistent to pay him more than that. I hope the can strike a deal but I’m ok with walking away if it becomes too expensive
