Part of the captains job is to be the liaison to the refs. It is there job to talk to them and clarify things. It is very loud in a hockey arena and often to make yourself understood there is a lot of gesturing and yelling. There are plenty of reasons to dislike that entitled douche but this silly narrative about whining to the refs when you are the captain is just dumb. The problem is when McDiver does it, it's usually after he dove and the ref didn't fall for it, or after a clear and obvious penalty against the Oilers.
