I just read this NYT article and was reminded of your post.  It's a paywalled article so I'll insert the first few paragraphs.

No, Border Deal Won’t ‘Allow’ 5,000 Unauthorized Immigrants a Day

Republican critics have quickly twisted one element of a bipartisan compromise bill unveiled on Sunday to misleadingly suggest that it permits 5,000 migrants to enter the country illegally every day.  The legislation, which links additional funding in military aid for Ukraine with immigration policy, would more aggressively tamp down on illegal crossings at the U.S. border with Mexico.

The claim has become a popular talking point, reflecting broader pushback by Republicans who have seized on the border security provisions in the $118.3 billion bill and derided them as too lax.  But the bill does not, in fact, authorize immigrants to cross the border illegally. Instead, among other provisions, it would give officials the authority to summarily remove migrants, with little recourse, after a certain number cross: an average of 5,000 encounters per day for a week, or 8,500 in a single day.

The legislation seeks to make it harder for people to claim asylum and expedite that process; expand federal detention capacity; and provide funding for other border investments, including hiring asylum officers and border security agents, among other things. It does not say that 5,000 immigrants are allowed to illegally enter per day.  Instead, the bill uses that number to help determine when a new, stringent emergency authority can take effect to more easily expel migrants, regardless of whether they intend to seek asylum.

This is amazing. NYT deny the deal will 'allow' 5000 immigrants a day because the specific word "allow"  isn't used apparently. Instead it says "it would give officials the authority to summarily remove migrants, with little recourse, after a certain number cross: an average of 5,000 encounters per day for a week, or 8,500 in a single day". 😂 Actually worse than what I posted. The billions they want for the border aren't to stop the migration, but rather institutionalize it. The money is for processing, accomodating and lawyering the migrants. Typical big government doing what big government does best, spend spend spend.

Apparently the tougher screening they plan is that the illegals have to answer theree questions correctly. Are you a criminal? (No) Could you stay in your home country? (No, I'm scared) Could you stay in Mexico?(No,I'm scared) . Done deal.

Read the article or just the lines I posted?  AP any more trustworthy?

Anyway, it does not matter much to me.  It seems we can both read the same thing and draw a different conclusion from it.

There's nothing not to trust. They admit to 5000-8500 encounter threshold.

Why pay delivery fees when he can get his lapdog Nauta to get it? Spend the savings on extra burgers.

Looks like the knifes are out for RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. Someone has to take the blame for all the recent election losses.

Also a lot of talk about a mutiny against Mitch.

The MAGA types are asserting their will on the party.

And their poor performance regarding campaign donations.   There is even a number of state QOPs that are having money troubles.

Mitch is a cold, calculating scumbag, but he has to know now that he totally fucked this up.

He could have been done with Bones Spurs and his lackeys, had he just gotten enough votes to convict after the 2nd Impeachment. Instead, he capitulated, because just like all the other republican cowards, he was afraid of the Trump base.

Meanwhile, people like Brian Kemp stood up to fat boy and somehow managed to get re-elected anyway.....

Many have tried.  As many as failed to go against:

I'm thinking Judges are smart enough to know that if 'immunity' covers killing political opponents, it would also cover killing judges that don't rule as the president wants.

This whole immunity thing should have been decided weeks ago.

SCOTUS makes a lot of noise about respecting lower court decisions.....

I guess we'll find out if Thomas and Alito can convince their conservative colleagues that they should ignore that, in order to help out their boy Trump....:classic_unsure:
