Would it be fair to say that Musk has been overtly political over the last few years? Any push back he gets has nothing to do with progress.

Musk has issues with his Aspergers, but he's also a bit of an asshole/d-bag.  However I separate the man and the accomplishments.

SpaceX nearly went bankrupt, but he kept at it until the very last launch he could afford at the time.  Had it failed, the company would have died in it's infancy.

His ego with buying/calling himself a Tesla "founder" is Trump-esque, which I don't like.

The day after he was convicted of 34 felonies for falsifying business records relating to paying hush money to a porn star, former president Donald Trump stood in the lobby of Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan and attacked the judge who presided over the case. Trump said Judge Juan Merchan “looks like an angel, but he’s really a devil,” and accused Merchan of being a “tyrant.”

One need not even have a law degree from Trump University to realize that attacking the one person who now holds your criminal sentence in his hands is a suboptimal legal strategy.

But the chemicals sloshing ...

In a scathing new column, a National Review writer bashed the Republicans for placing the future of their party and their 2024 election prospects in the hands of a clearly "unfit" Donald Trump.

Getting right to the point, Christian Schneider wrote that Donald Trump's 34 felony convictions should not have been the tipping point for conservatives who are now on the fence over the election that looms a mere five months away.

To make his case, he pointed to Trump's history as a public servant, writing: "If you’re so concerned about Trump’s dubious felony convictions that you’re able to ignore the entirety of his behavior over the past eight years, your moral sextant has been thrown overboard and now lies at the bottom of the ocean beside the scary, bug-eyed fish with fiber-optic lights protruding from their foreheads."

Addressing the embattled former president's legal woes, Schneider suggested that Trump's unfitness for office is on full display because he can't seem to wrap his head around not attacking Judge Juan Merchan, who holds his fate in his hands when he sentences him in early July — part and parcel of a string of previous courtroom failures.

"The chemicals sloshing around in Trump’s cranium uniformly force him to demonstrate less self-control than Lauren Boebert at a performance of Beetlejuice," he wrote. "It is why Trump was found in contempt of court ten times during the trial, as he routinely broke the gag order imposed by Merchan, an order implemented to keep the former president from intimidating and threatening witnesses and jurors. It is why, after being slapped with a penalty of $5 million for defaming a woman he allegedly sexually assaulted, Trump faced a second judgment of $83.3 million for continuing to defame her."

As Schneider sees it, all of that combined with Trump's "stop the steal" campaign that led to the Jan. 6 insurrection should have made the former president too toxic to be at the head of the ticket in November, but GOP "loyalists" haven't figured it out yet or are just too "stupid" to realize what they have gotten themselves into.

"The Republican Party has been backed into a corner because it picked one of the worst human beings in America to represent it. It should be possible to look at last week’s verdict against Trump and disagree with it without declaring it to be a Fidel Castro–like show trial, but this is where some on the right have gone," he wrote before quoting John Stuart Mill calling British Conservatives the “stupid party,” to which he added, "The comment now reads as prophetic of today’s GOP."

I'm fairly ignorant of Henry Ford beyond the assembly line thing.  I'll have to read up on him.  Thanks for the response...

Also, I remember when I first read up on Edison 20 years or so ago.  I was so disappointed.

Like I've said before, the GOP wanted DeDufus from Florida to be president.  DeDufus is very conservative and would have been a useful tool for them.  Much more conservative than Trump.  There are some in that party that are still holding a grudge.

The weird thing is, they could have had him.....all they needed to do was to whip up a few more Impeachment votes in the Senate and it was a done deal....

The crazies like MTG and Gaetz are happy, but the McConnells and the Lankfords must realize how badly they fucked things up.....

Former President Donald Trump's criminal conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records in New York has led to an upsurge of rhetoric from MAGA-aligned evangelists, wrote Tim Dickinson for Rolling Stone — and they are casting the former president as a religious martyr, and the conviction as a trial for America from which God will deliver the faithful.

Trump supporters comparing the former president to Jesus is not a new phenomenon — but some are solidifying a clearer narrative than ever in the wake of the trial, which centered on Trump's illegally concealed hush payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels to hide an extramarital affair from voters in 2016.

One such voice driving this narrative is Julie Green, an Iowa-based online preacher.

"In a prophetic word filmed shortly after Trump’s conviction, Green delivered a message she claimed was sent down from the most high," Rolling Story reported.

"'Woe to the enemies of Almighty God. You are laughing, thinking you got what you desired,' Green said, voicing her version of the Christian deity. 'I will tell you I will have the last laugh. Your verdict is a joke. And an illusion … I will show you whose verdict really counts. My son is not guilty,' Green claimed God said of Trump.

"'And the world will … see your kangaroo courts, and how they are a joke, and how they are nothing against Me.' Casting Trump in the mold of a biblical king, Green continued, 'I say, you do not have my David where you want him. But I have you where I want you. I told you you will reap what you have sown … Your show is about to end, and my children are about to laugh.'"

Another of these evangelists is Dutch Sheets, a self-proclaimed modern "apostle" who delivered to his followers a vision he had, Rolling Stone reported.

"Sheets related that in this dream Trump said his work would take two terms. 'It’ll be an eight-year process, and it’ll take two men — me then another — for the full sweep of power.' Sheets then insisted that the new convictions showed Trump 'truly is a political martyr,' whose destruction has been sought by 'the leftists, globalist, and Dems,'" the reports stated.

Sheets concluded this sermon by laying down a prophecy: “Trump, he is being martyred politically, but You will raise him up again. And we decree that darkness will scatter in the light, evil will be shaken down and truth will prevail in America.”

The fervor with which many Trump supporters compare Trump's legal struggles to a religious cause has led to widespread condemnations of blasphemy from less radicalized punditry.

I know he was getting so old in his final term and that Nancy at times had to remind him what to say but Ronald Regan was the best Republican

maybe ever.

John F Kenedy was, by a country mile, the best Democrat.

Bush senior was OK and Obama was OK

See; It's not always the way you swing, it's what's good for the country.

Eisenhower seemed pretty ok.  Rotten Ronnie kicked off the disastrous War on drugs, inflicted trickle down economics on society, and eliminated the Fair News Doctrine forcing news outlets to show both sides.  He was nothing short of pure evil and the world is still suffering as a result of his actions.

BARF.

Regan was crap. The last decent Republican was Dwight Eisenhower.

Ronnie deregulated everything, and part of the reason our society has no safeguards is he let Industry police itself.

Ike at least knew when defence companies were pushing overpriced projects. And kept lots of companies working, and spreading the work around. Instead of consolidation like now.

He even tried "New Look" more cost effective US Military. He even warned as he left office to watch out for the Military Industrial Complex.

That would be Nixon. Ronnie ramped it up and Clinton did too.

For those thinking the existing rules will box Trump in. I give you his cronies who do not respect the rule of law.

House Republicans Push Devious Plan to Help Trump Pardon Himself

House Republicans are pushing for a bill that would allow a current or former president to lift any state case against them and plop it right into a federal court—a clear response to Donald Trump’s most recent New York conviction.

Several House GOP sources told Axios that Republican lawmakers are prodding House Speaker Mike Johnson to call for a floor vote on the bill.

It should surprise no one that the person behind this latest scheme is none other than Donald Trump. Last month, Rolling Stone reported that Trump held “several” meetings with Republican lawmakers and lawyers, asking them to pursue legislation that would permanently shield him from prosecution outside of a federal court.

Attempts to advance this proposed legislation is only the latest desperate effort from Trump’s allies to somehow undo the former president’s guilty verdict, as opposed to simply waiting for an appeal. The bill has reportedly already passed the House Judiciary committee.

At the moment, the floor vote seems unlikely, according to sources close to Johnson, because it’s a little unpopular among some Republicans. Not to mention, it doesn’t stand a chance in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

If it were miraculously passed into law, the proposed legislation could help Trump clear his record should he be elected in November. While presidents are able to pardon federal convictions, they cannot pardon state ones.

Trump is still facing state-level charges in Georgia for allegedly attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 elections in that state.

Upon exiting the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin was asked by a passerby whether the new constitution would provide a monarchy or a republic.

His answer was: "A republic, if you can keep it."

Exclusive: Biden tells Muir he wouldn't pardon son Hunter, says Trump got 'fair trial'

President Joe Biden said he would not pardon his son Hunter amid an ongoing felony gun trial during a wide-ranging exclusive interview with ABC News anchor David Muir at the Normandy American Cemetery on the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

Muir asked Biden on Thursday if he would accept the outcome of his son's trial in Wilmington, Delaware, to which the president said, "Yes." Biden also said "yes" when asked by Muir if he would rule out a pardon for Hunter.

Hunter Biden, the president's only surviving son, is on trial in Delaware on three felony charges related to his efforts to obtain a firearm in 2018 while allegedly addicted to drugs. It's a historic trial, as no son of a sitting president has faced a criminal trial before. Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty last October after being indicted by special counsel David Weiss.

During the interview with Muir in Normandy, France, the president also touched on opponent Donald Trump's own historic trial, after Trump became the first former president to be convicted on felony charges. Trump, convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records, has baselessly called his guilty verdict a politically motivated witch hunt.

Biden accused Trump of seeking to undermine the rule of law.

"He's trying to undermine it," Biden told Muir. "He got a fair trial. The jury spoke."

Yeah, I saw this yesterday....

Interesting how all of these decisions favorable to Trump start happening right after Mike Johnson traveled to Mara-Lardo to kiss the ring....

For those who may not of noticed, that was about the same time that Bone Spurs called off his "fire the speaker" attack dog:
