Biden sends defiant letter to Democrats, says time to end questions, come together

In a lengthy letter to Democrats, President Joe Biden on Monday says it is time for the party to come together so it can have the best chance at beating Donald Trump.

"The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it's time for it to end," Biden says. "We have one job. And that is to beat Donald Trump. We have 42 days to the Democratic Convention and 119 days to the general election. Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us. It is time to come together, move forward as a unified party, and defeat Donald Trump."

Biden, noting that House and Senate members are returning to Washington Monday, appears to be trying to head off a growing number of Democrats either saying he should step aside as the party's presumptive nominee -- or are continuing to question whether he needs to do so.

"Now that you have returned from the July 4th recess, I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump," he writes.

In private Biden needs to call them all together and remind them that he's literally only going to be the figurehead as he probably won't live out his term let alone be cognizant enough to manage it so a vote for him is really a vote for his VP.

Then get a quality VP behind him they can agree on and run it hard.

EVERYONE knows whoever Bidens VP is will be the president as he won't see out his term so why not just say the quiet part out loud to his caucus

I've been taking this approach with trump as well, both men could just keel over at any moment. It's very important to approach this from the perspective of you are voting in their administrations, not the individual.

This election is supposed to be the most important in history.  Judge Merchan gave Trump a lifeline by pushing back the sentencing until at least September.  The Democrats agreed to a debate in June, which has never happened before, when they knew Biden was in a mental decline.  The Democrats are now scrambling and quite frankly they are eating their own at this point.  All they had to do was wait until after the convention to have a debate when Biden was the defacto candidate and similarly Merchan could have sentenced Trump on Thursday as planned.  The Supreme Court threw a wrench into everything though, so Trump was bailed out by his buddies on the court.

At this point, not sure which is worse, allowing Biden to keep going and run or to do the switcheroo.  Both have their positives and negatives.  Meanwhile, Trump is eating all of this and his poll numbers are rising.  He also has alot of ammunition for his election advertising.  It's one big mess really...

The complete extermination of Putin's regime will permanently lower the need for defence spending, especially in the Arctic.  This needs to be viewed as an investment rather than an expense, and is one that isn't costing American lives.

There are foreign policy experts predicting that getting rid of Putin could very well put someone even worse than him in the Kremlin.

I haven't paid close attention to the minutia of Russian politics the last 15 years give or take so I have no idea if they are full of crap or not.

Also, that was the whole idea of the Cold War.  Get someone better in position of Russia's leadership.  Then Putin came along.

Historically, Russian leaders have sucked as often as not.

Another screw up by MTG-

Marjorie Taylor Greene was called out after fumbling major details about American history.

On Friday, July 5, the Georgia rep made a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that read: "The average age of the signers of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 was 44 years old, but more than a dozen were 35 or younger."

BB1pDglz.img?w=534&h=340&m=6

She then listed: "Thomas Jefferson: 33; John Hancock: 39; James Madison: 25; Alexander Hamilton: 21; James Monroe: 18; Aaron Burr: 20; Paul Revere: 41; George Washington: 44."

However, X tagged the post with a correction that stated neither Madison, Hamilton, Monroe, Burr, Revere or Washington were signers of the Declaration of Independence.

Critics flooded the comments section with jokes slamming the congressmember for failing to educate herself on a piece of basic American history before posting on social media.

"You got a majority of names wrong. How are you in congress!!??? We need a civics test to run for government," one person penned, and another chimed in, " If you don’t know our country's history at least take the 30 seconds it would take to use google."

California Republican representative Jack Kimble quipped, "How did you forget Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, and Ronald Reagan?"

I would prefer that Europe take the lead on the stuff that happens in their part of the world.  The US's economy won't be hurt because it's not a manufacturing based economy like China's.  The US is a service and high tech based economy.

Spending billions and even trillions of dollars on foreign wars will weaken the US much more than forcing Europe to spend some extra money on their military.

The US has proved it's untrustworthy many times.  As a foreign country, when you make a deal with one president, the next president in office usually has few qualms about breaking the deal.

Look at Ukraine for instance.  Technically, the US was supposed to defend it because that was part of the deal 30 years ago when they gave up their leftover nuclear arsenal.

The world has learned that when you make a deal with the US, it's only good so long as the people you made that deal with are in power.

Personally, I'm fine with that.

As the Global Economy develops, so will Global Developers and Global Suppliers, IMO, the US has always benefitted from having the world trade in US dollars, IMO, when the US weakens, so does the obligation to use US dollars

But, in saying that.....the US spend between 1.3 and 2.00 trillion dollars on the Afghanistan War.(not prorated) As of today, the US has spent approx. 113 billion on the Ukrainian War. When comparing the 2, and considering pro-rated dollars, The US has spent approx. 1/20th of the money, they spent on the Afghanistan War, and the US showed absolutely no economic fall out for supporting that war.

IMO, the USA biggest concern, should be the confidence that the USA will remain, the world leader, and hold it's values and virtues strong! The world wants a strong leader, and it can be seen, by many examples......Europe waiting for the US stance on The Russian aggression as one. Look at the North Korean and Japanese response to the same war, and when they started to contribute, and you will see, it was after the US senate got their act together.

The world needs a strong leader..................not another Dictator

As for Trust worthy...good point! But even still, all Democratic Leaders understand and live their own lives under the very same circumstances.....

Very interesting election results in England and France......Hmmmmm?  Right wing popularity not quite what it thought it was......very interesting!

I understand your reasoning, but I disagree with most of your conclusions.  The money that we spend on these wars is badly needed here in the US for domestic use.

Let Europe shoulder much more financial responsibility.  If that means they have to lose their free government subsidized healthcare, take on even more debt, or pay even more in taxes, that's a choice they should have to make.  I'm tired of the US gov't screwing over it's own citizens so we can be the go-to nation when the sh*t hits the fan.

France was bit of a surprise to plenty of people.

The UK result was very predictable.  The UK conservative leader even admitted that they got what they deserved because they didn't keep their word on their promises when they were in power.  They lied to their constituents and were soundly punished for it as expected.

It was in 2010 in South Korea.  He posted a picture of himself and someone else with a dead animal that they hunted and killed and barbecued, pretending to take a bite out of the dead animal.  It was like a skeleton so couldn't tell what it was, but it did resemble a dog.  He said it was a goat.  Someone analyzed the bone structure and determined it was a dog.  I'd post the picture and tweet but not sure if it conforms with the rules of the forum...

EDIT:  I found a link to the actual article, so I'll post that.  The picture is in the link so you can see for yourself...

Imo if this was the most evil act amongst politicians we would live in Utopia.

Not to say I believe RFK is perfect, but this barely registers in the bigger picture imo. Just goes to show how powerful the media in driving narratives that this is considered on a campaign breaking level while Hunter Biden's dad is the Oval office.

If the US does end up as a Trumpian hellscape, I can see post-2024 looking like the flood of draft resisters who came to Canada in the 60's and early 70's and stayed. And in return, we can send them our far right mouthbreathers who want to live in an all-white, uneducated, gun-toting, Christian-nationalist dictatorship that no longer observes the rule of law.

It's still a better chance for them with Project 2025 openly advocating for concentration camps.

So if the Germans called the "national socialists" the "nazis", would this make the American "christian nationalists" become "chrina"?  :classic_ninja:

"

Satanists are volunteering to fill vacancies across Florida schools after Ron DeSantis signed a new law pushing for more religion in education.

A state law went into effect last week allowing for “additional counseling and support to students” from outside organizations to fill staff shortages – including from religious groups.

The Florida initiative allows chaplains to serve as public school counselors as more states aim to embed Christianity into public school environments.

Without the bill, DeSantis – who was brought up in a staunchly Catholic household – said that “you’re basically saying that God has no place [on campus],” adding “That’s wrong”.

Members of the Satanic Temple have lobbied for freedom of religion in public schools, including through the establishment of After School Satan clubs – which have been popping up in states across the US that allow religious groups to operate on campus.

'Pray for this burdened man': Republican mocked after telling House he does his own dishes

https://www.rawstory.com/republican-dishwashers/

Republican Rep. Jeff Duncan stood on the House floor Tuesday and bemoaned his plight to the American people, avowing "I do load and unload the dishwasher."

In consequence, he was immediately and resoundingly mocked.

The South Carolina lawmaker made this heartfelt omission of personal suffering during a debate on the Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards bill that seeks to prohibit theSecretary of Energy from enforcing energy conservation standards.

"I can tell you, Mr. Speaker, that many times I have opened the dishwasher, loaded properly, with the right amount of dishwashing liquid or pod put in, that all the dishes aren't clean," the orator declared.

MAGA Oklahoma official hires Project 2025 mastermind to write state history standards

https://www.rawstory.com/ryan-walters-oklahoma-2668710381/

Ryan Walters, the controversial far-right Oklahoma state education chief, has put together a team to rewrite the school's history standards — including one of the key architects of Project 2025.

According to NBC reporter Tyler Kingkade, Walters' Executive Review Committee to reform the state's social studies directives includes Kevin Roberts, the leader of the right-wing Heritage Foundation think tank.

Project 2025, the group's 900-page blueprint for the next Republican president, outlines a strategy to replace the entire federal civil service with GOP loyalists, and enact a sweeping right-wing vision that includes codifying Christian nationalism into law and sharply scaling back everything from Social Security and Medicare to military family benefits.
