Reminds me of our playoffs with the Burkey Mighty Ducks in the 2007 semi finals. Their strategy was clearly to just play nasty. And take the penalties. Burke was smart. He knew that at some point, the refs, seeing only one team taking the penalties, put their whistle away. Even if the offending team deserved every one of them. So what Burkey's team would do then, is continue to hold, hook, interfere, etc without consequence. Or at least it would create the situation where we'd be called for any minor infraction to help manage the reffing, and they'd only get called on 1/3 of the infractions they did commit to keep the calls somewhat even. I helped locate & supply a difficult item to find for one of my customers, the owner was grateful and asked what he could do to thank me. I told him it wasn’t necessary but when he came in to pick up the item he brought a banh mi for each of the guys in the shop. The New York Times made a fairly solid case saying the same exact thing in the time it took them to call a few experts and write an article about it. So basically 24-48 hours.
