For those wondering what is going on in financial markets. The vast majority of this is unwinding of Dollar/Yen carry trades. US Dollar interest rates are 5%, Japanese Yen interest rates are .25%. The trade is to buy USD while selling Yen and pocket the interest rate differential. Getting paid 4.75% to wait it out ain't too shabby. Then take the proceeds of the trade and plow in into US tech stocks like NVDA. That's why of the 3 US indicies the Nasdaq is getting hit the hardest.

 

USD/JPY currency carry trade unwinding/getting blown up.

Nasdaq getting unwound.

 

 

Japanese Nikkei stock market putting the boots to lazy, unimaginative carry trade whores. A test of those previous October lows were such a gift last night.

That's an awfully long winded way of saying 'I didn't want to own up to killing the bear'.

A while back ago I got interested in algo and HFT trading(just as a interest and nothing else) which is nefarious in it's own right. This was in around 2011. I wonder now with the proliferation of AI and the feedback loops that can happen with flash crashing and the circuit breaker these firms are supposed to employ played a part in theses crashes. It's so secretive we might not ever know

That said, people panicking and/or looking for a political advantage against Biden/Harris/Democrats are going to look foolish if/when the market rebounds.  People and institutions will buy shares in solid and healthy companies on the dip.
