NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Ottawa Senators on the offseason trade market

Shane Seney Friday, June 07, 2024

The Ottawa Senators are tired of missing the playoffs and once again, enter an offseason of change. General manager Steve Staios has hired Travis Green behind the bench and is hopeful a new voice can lead to change. Staios is also going to make some trades this summer and re-tool on the fly.

The Senators have a number of players who are rumored to be available on the trade market, they include:

Jakob Chychrun

The Sens have a number of defensemen signed to long-term contracts on the back end and Chychrun seems to be the one player they are discussing the most. He's been linked to the trade market for most of the season and ahead of the NHL Draft, could finally be moved. Chychrun recorded 41 points in 82 games last season and is owed $4.6 million against the cap next season. He holds a 10-team no-trade clause and will have some say in the matter. Considering how weak the free-agent market is for left-handed d-men, the Senators should have no troubles trading the 26-year-old blueliner. It's just going to take a significant offer and NHL-talent to make it happen.

Joonas Korpisalo

Korpisalo is one of the many goaltenders available this summer and he's likely the least of the bunch to get moved. The 30-year-old has four seasons left on his contract at a $4 million cap hit and because of his struggles last season, Staios will be in tough to get full value. Korpisalo posted a 3.27 GAA last season in 55 appearances and was a disappointment in his first season in Ottawa. He owns a 10-team modified no-trade clause and look for Ottawa to include him in a package with a couple of sweeteners to unload the rest of his contract.

Mathieu Joseph

It was confirmed via Bruce Garrioch this week that Joseph is available. The speedy forward has been linked to trade rumors for months now and was apparently pretty close to getting moved to the Philadelphia Flyers. Joseph has two seasons left on his deal at $2.95 million and recorded 11 goals and 35 points in 72 games last season.

I feel like we should post more reliable sources than "nhltraderumors"

Yeah I agree.  Let's try and keep it to legit insiders.

The topic is trades rumours and signings. Rumours are part of the offseason and some of the pundits that are posted to the site in question are actual insiders and break news before Friedman et al.

Recently they were first or on top of the Guentzel situation, Lindholm, Necas, amongst others. Some of it is opinion, but please tell me the difference between them and Friedman and 32 thoughts which also comprises a lot of wild and eventually incorrect speculation as well.

You can doubt the sources by all means, but some folks enjoy the rumours so perhaps just ignore what you don’t find legit? Heads up, Seravalli is considered an insider and he’s mostly incorrect in the majority of his early speculation.

You also have the capability of posting content yourselves, yeah?

im not paid to do this so maybe consider yourselves fortunate that people take their time to provide content meant to be food for discussion.

Cheers

@Pears

@Ghostsof1915 you seem to regularly complain about topics posted in this section. Perhaps just avoid it rather than waste your time negating. Seems kind of redundant, no?
