Yeah it takes a team

You changed tune pretty quick there.

What happened to we might not even be in the playoffs without Hronek?

Then you say it takes a team

What do you mean? Was Hronek not a big part of our team. Wasn’t our defence core a big reason for our turnover?

I said it’s possible yes. Hronek was Hughes partner most of the year. Quinn Hughes is not taking us to the post season by himself. It takes a team to do that. Hronek was a big part of that. It’s not some big coincidence

I don't know, but I think that's worth a beer in it's self!

Seriously, he hasn't worked out here and is not a Tocchet  style player..

I mean, I don't really want him fired into the sun, knowing his luck he'd probably miss it. 😆

He hasn't worked out here, and that's fine. Not every move a GM makes can be one that works out. I can't see any way that he returns to Vancouver this fall.

Its possible? Are you kidding me. You are all over the place. I bring up QH then you say it takes a team. Then you scale back and say wasnt Hronek not a big part of our Defence.

My OP was directed at your comment saying we would not be in the playoffs without Hronek. Which is completely bogus.

As long as it isn’t a top prospect or a 1st rounder, just do it.

They can’t significantly improve the team and more specifically the top 6 with 4.75m on the 3rd line scoring 10 goals

can't see anyone dumb enough to see value in mikheyev at his full cap hit @ 4.75mil for 2 more years.. prolly cost you at least a 1st to trade at current value unless you are retaining a good chunk on that.. you might get someone to bite if mikheyev is at 2.5-3mil.. at 4.75mil? good luck

I hope they learned their lesson with Mikheyev.

For that contract to have value he would have had to play to his absolute ceiling. And even then that’s a fringe second line player. You can’t be paying almost 5 mil for bottom 6 guys.

Was targeting Mikheyev part of a plan to court Kuzmenko? If so that was also short sighted.

Every GM has mistakes. This was their first attempt at free agency with this team and unfortunately Free Agency has more mistakes then wins

I did wonder about the Mkheyev-Kuzmenko connection at the time. I cannot remember the exact sequence of events  but I do remember that there was some positive reinforcement between the two.

But signing Mik was a mistake. That is not just hindsight. Even at the time it looked like an overpayment and the commentary was at best neutral. It did not seem like a JR-type move. I wonder if JR just felt he had to let PA make the call and grow into the job, even if he made mistakes.

I am guessing that PA has learned a lot. He certainly did well last summer and during the 23-24 season.

for sure. personally id still rather just keep hronek if he'll go for 7.5.

So when huges gets 13 million you want our top pair to be 20.5 million dollars.   This is not sound business....

I have a feeling he is going to go to Pittsburgh and the Canucks and Penguins will swap like a 4th rounder and 6th. He is not a player that brings negative value to a team and for all the screaming here about him he was on pace and finished the year at his career averages in terms of production.

He is overpaid by a bit, that is all.  There might be teams that have a hard time attracting free agents that might want to grab him.  He was always previously used as a defensive specialist, but since being with the Canucks has been deployed more in the offensive zone.  It turns out he didn’t have that extra offence hidden in his game that they thought.

Provably be a package move or another “bad” contract coming back.

He was a stunningly bad fit with Petterson which leaves a bad taste compared to early in the season.  He did have similar production to Joshua, Blueger, and Hoglander.

Beauvillier had half a season left. Mik has 2 full seasons left. Big difference.

I'm not unaware of that. I do believe lower standing teams will see value in Mik and parting with a 7th or C prospect could be feasible

With the cap going up, trading Mik shouldn't require a sweetener to a team like Utah or some other bottom feeder. We won't get hardly anything in return, but it'll be a great move for some team to get him for scraps. He's going to bounce back next year, it's just that we need the cap space or else we'd be keeping him and having him bounce back with us.

Even my dumbass realized this was a dumb signing from the outset. We had giant holes on the blueline and they signed a forward for 5mil with zero 60 game seasons and one 20+ goal season at the age of 27. They promptly complained a few months after that they had no cap to add to the blueline. Yeah, cause you spent it on Mikheyev for some stupid reason. Now we'll have to move picks or a good prospect to dump this bum we never should have signed to begin with.

you make it sound like it's easy to be a gm who only makes successful deals. i'm sure FA would be thrilled to talk to you.
