Love to see Allvin offer him a 3 year deal in the $6.5-$ 7.5 range.

Stamkos has made a lot of money in his career, not sure he's looking for the biggest payday as much as he's looking

for the best fit with a chance to win another cup. If it's about the best offer (money) then he'll sign with San Jose, Chicago, Utah or Detroit.

Most of the better teams or contenders don't have a lot of $$$ to spend though unless they can move out players.

I like our chances....just don't handcuff our future by offering him a 4-6 year deal.

Stamkos may have made a lot of money, but he also lost a shit ton of it.    I'm going to bet he goes for the money, it's his last chance.

Call me crazy but I’d like to see the Canucks just chill on July 1.

Make offers to:

Dillon 3.5 x 3 years

Foegele 3.5 x 4 years

Duhaime 2 x 2 years

Tack on an extra .5k if you need to

or go cray-cray and sign Guentzel idgaf

Id rather shop in the for sale rack and try to get guys like Duclaire and Patrick Kane. Both combined , you can probably get for 2 - 3 years with a combined 9 million AAV, then you'll have 5-6 million to get 2 dmen and sign silovs. Kane would look incredible either with JT or EP40, the guy still has juice left in the tank. Would he come here though thats the question. That will push Suter to the 4th line. I really don't think we are getting Guentzel, I'd rather have a bit older players that won't command double digit salaries and keep their terms reasonable

Canucks for sure need to nab a defenseman and a top six player for EP.    Doesn't need to be Stamkos, Guentzel or Rhino.   But does need to be a player who can handle top six minutes and produce.    Can't afford another goof signing like Kuzmenko or Mikheyev.

Honestly and this might not be popular, but think the team needs to seriously look into what an EP trade might look.

Florida did this with Huberdeau and Weager (a very legit top four guy),  and went to the final and won a cup this season.

OTT needs a bit more offense and goaltending.    Silov's and EP for Brady Tckchuk.   Use that extra money to get one of the marquee guys (Stammer) and Zadarov,  Tanev/Roy/Pesce.

Or go even more gangbusters,  Demko and EP for Brady T and their best goalie, best prospect,  and Pino.   And then sign Samsonov or Talbot, De-smith and try and Skinner our way to the cup.     That extra cap space use it wisely.

Just thinking out loud.    If we aren't going to use free agency,  time to trade a core player to fill out the roster.

Those guys don't move the needle much.    Solid cheaper guys, that all come with a premium.   Wouldn't it be better to get some more legit players and let our cheap guys fill those roles?

Trading Petey is an absolutely no go !!!

He is still young and one of the best 2way Centers in the league.

Petey and hopefully Hughes are the faces of this Franchise for the next 8-10 years.

I think PA will find good players in FA or via trade to fill the holes.

Dont trade core players and sign or trade for:

-top 6 winger

-2 D men

pretty sure that just means they have to clear waivers, their full cap hit is still buried in the minors

doesn't have anything to do with waivers, either. one-way deal means they get paid their nhl salary whether they're in the nhl or demoted, whereas a two-way deal they only get paid their nhl salary for the days they're on the roster, and when they're not they get paid their much lower ahl salary (~$50k-500k).

You think they would prefer to play Silovs over the Vezina winner they just traded for?

They'd have to clear waivers even if they were on two way contracts.  One way just means they get paid NHL scale regardless of whether it's in the NHL or AHL.  You're right though, they don't count against the cap when they're in abby

Unless I'm missing something, why is everyone saying we're out on Guentzel? Sounds like CAR struck out a re-signing him, and yes, I know the Lightning just cleared a bunch of cap...

Because Tampa just traded a 3rd round pick for his rights.

Does that sound like they are not close in negotiations?

With Guentzel most likely signing in TB, questions now are who's next at the top of our list in terms of ufas or do we do the trade route in finding Petey a winger

It wasn’t a sign and trade so they wouldn’t have been allowed to talk to the player before trading for his rights.

There were no negotiations.

When a team has to trade for rights and hasn’t been given permission to talk to the player or have a sign and trade, it is more likely that the player has said they intend on going to free agency.

The return for a sign and trade is more than for the rights so the sending team would be incentivized to go that route if it was available.

Amazing how many people are panicking before July 1.
There was good chance that Guentzel was never getting to market.

Why don’t we wait a few days after July 1 to panic, we can just forget how active PA was throughout the season, so that we can get a really good freak out session in and still have plenty of summer left to bash our fantastically active management group.

I think we're going to get value picks. Ones that produce but don't break the bank, and are fast, good team guys.

The way the board was acting like JG was basically ours was just plain silly.
