Really hoping for Stamkos, Reinhart, Guentzel or Zadorov. One of these guys would be a home-run. Not fricken Toffoli.

Reinhart stays with Florida, JG goes to Tampa, Zads to Toronto and not sure about Stamkos. Of the UFAs under 30, DeBrusk seems to have the most points per dollar. I’d prefer a Petey winger under 32 years old and less than 6 million so we can get another RD and perhaps a 3C. Is Drouin still injured? He’s young and cheap.

Or they sign the wrong players, and those guys end up being terrible.

Or, even if the Canucks improve, the other teams still get better than us.

There is a reason they play the games, and don't just decide who wins, by looking at the rosters.

Or they sign the right players and those guys end up being brilliant.

Or, the Canucks improve more than the other teams.

You're right, there is a reason they play the games.  However, we also can look at things with a rational and educated guess.  The Canucks were the 6th best team in the entire NHL.  They were 1 win from being 3rd overall.  Realistically, it is highly unlikely they fall dramatically down the rankings so far that they don't even make the playoffs (which is what Stawns is suggesting).  It would literally take EVERYTHING going wrong at the same time.

rational

educated.

This whole sentence reads like a not so vague putdown.

tldr- your opinions are ok, but no need to diss others for thinking differently.

Sorry, didn't mean to make it sound that way.  I was just talking in general.

Some guesses for tomorrow

CAR to TB - Guentzel

TB to FLA - Stamkos (signs cheap because he really wants to stay in Florida)

FLA - Reinhart (re-signs cheap because he really wants to stay in Florida)

VAN to TB - Zadorov

DAL to TOR - Tanev

FLA to NJ - Tarasenko

CAR - Teravainen (re-signs)

WPG to LA - Toffoli

LA to VAN - Arvidsson (because he's Swedish)

I think we land either Carrier, Hakanpaa, Dillon or Debrusk

I wonder if the Canucks try to sign Taylor Raddysh?  They are desperate for RH RWs and he would be a buy low option that fits w how Tocchett wants to play.  Hopefully he’s interested in the team/coaching staff here

I also wonder if we just find some bargain deals and trade for the winger they want

Toffoli is the most overrated player on the planet. There is a reason why he gets passed on. Please don’t sign him tomorrow. If we do we are doomed for the next decade

Yes,

This will have relevance tomorrow for every D man available.

Umm... there have been 30+ teams for several years.  The competition hasn't changed.  The one thing very noticeable this year is that there are a LOT more RHD available than usual.  Even more have been added as they were not qualified today (ie. Nils Lundqvist among others).

What are you even talking about?  "Everything went right"?

- Petey got injured and sucked for half the season after that.

- Mikheyev was a $4.75M offensive black hole.

- The hottest 3rd line in the league lost one of the key cogs for 1/4 of a season (Joshua).

- We lost our #1 Vezina calibre goaltender for over a month down the stretch.

How exactly did EVERYTHING go right?  Some things went right like Boeser and Hoglander, but you could narrow things down like that for any and every team in the league.

Reality is the team is starting to peak because the core is maturing.

Just because you thought the Canucks would struggle this past year, but instead were a top tier team in the league doesn't mean their results were an outlier.

Really, the only issue was the demko injury and only losing one key member of your team over the course of a season is definitely things going right.  If you keep your core guys intact over a year, you're thrilled.
