Can someone explain how all these players are signed before free agency begins? And why is it always the American teams that get the jump, never a Canadian city signing before free agency opens..

Tampering and teams usually allow players to talked to other teams after they told the team they won't be re-signing.

As for American teams. Taxes. The nhl need to figure that one out under this hard cap system. It is getting ridiculous.

Quite honestly, being able to re sign Joshua to a sweet 4 year contract is a massive signing and win. There aren’t many players in the league with his size, 5 on 5 production, PK, defense, extreme

physicality and being a massive forechecking force.

Playing in a Canadian city would suck.

Canucks giving away draft picks like candy is the reason why the team's prospect pool is so shallow now.

Yep. And depending on how close people think the team is at they would be okay to keep forking out first and second round picks every year.

Disaster of a free agency so far for PA.

Why did we trade Mik again? Don't look like we will need that cap space.

Umm cap space is worth a ton, it doesn't expire at the end of the day. It gives us so much flexibility moving forward.

Relax, just because you have money doesn't mean you spend it on the wrong things.

I am afraid they gonna get desperate and start trading 1st round picks this early in fa and Lekki and Willander at this point.

Well I guess we'll have to acquire players via trades which means giving away more draft picks  and possibly our prospects in our already limited cupboard. Either overpay or spend assets. Which bullet would you take...

Seems that many of those pics we have burned were to get out of bad UFA contracts, so may be better to cut that off before it happens.

I wonder if management makes a trade for someone like Jacob Middleton.

With the injuries Minnesota had, he was very effective playing as essentially a #3 d-man for them. Shot blocker, extremely physical, has offensive upside, 28 years old, and has a $2.45M contract for 1 year. Could be a bargain and will replace Zadorov’s presence while being the much better player.

You know what. I'm at peace with this. After years of Benning overpaying for UFA's Having cap space might turn out to be a blessing, especially at the deadline.

It just puts pressure on our prospects to finally take big strides.

You don’t have to spend it, but when everyone else has money, and they shelves are almost empty, you best get your ass in gear.

Smoke and what this GM group want to do are different things. Look at the prices.

Its better to do nothing and improve otherwise.

Don't we want to get to the cap before the season starts to make use of Poolmans LTIR cap ?

The issue is we have lot a of holes to fill right now amd not enough prospects ready to make the jump and fill those holes until the TDL.
